BC falls to Southern Wesleyan in tough match

The BC men’s and women’s tennis teams
played Southern Wesleyan University on
Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at the
McCoy Tennis Complex. This match was the
second of the day in the season opener. Both
teams fell short to the Warriors.
For the men’s team, number one doubles were
Ethan McGee and Jackson Ray who lost 1-8
to SWU’s Sarvesh Maria and Jonas Grasmuck.
Two doubles, Andrew Ingram and Troy Broska
also fell to the Warriors, Joseph Olatunji and
Fabian Segrada with a score of 1-8. JaMarcus
Walker and Miles Schafer rounded off the
men’s doubles lineup at number three, losing
to Cole Farren and Julio Lopes Polesi with a
score of 0-8.
McGee lost to Maria in number one singles
0-6, 0-6. At number two singles Ray fell short
to Grasmuck with a score of 1-6, 0-6. Broska
lost to Olatunji 0-6, 0-6 at three singles.
For four singles, Ingram fell to Polesi with a
score of 1-6, 0-6. Walker, at five singles, lost
to Segrada with a score of 1-6,0-6. Six singles,
Schafer lost to Farren 1-6, 0-6.
Overall, Southern Wesleyan University
defeated the BC men’s tennis team 9-0.
The BC women’s tennis team put up a good
fight, but ultimately fell short to Southern
Wesleyan University. At number one doubles,
Samantha Sepe and Lily Farr lost to SWU’s
Noemi Aguirre and Iva Jankovic in a close
match, 7-8 with a tiebreaker of 4-7. Number
two doubles team Margaret Correll and
Hamrick Perry lost 4-8 to Torrienne Emery
and Paulina Jankun. Jen Cox and Alii Kogoy
were defeated at number three doubles by Lydia
Kovats and Ashley Dube, 3-8.
At number one singles, women’s team captain
Sepe gave the fans something to watch by
defeating Jankovic 6-1, 6-1. This was the only
win by the BC women’s tennis team against
SWU. Number two singles Kogoy saw defeat
by Aguirre 3-6, 0-6. The third in the singles
lineup. Perry, lost to SWU’s Jankun 0-6, 1-6.
At four singles, Cox lost to Emery with a
score of 1-6,1-6. Farr, in at five singles, lost to
Dube with a score of 4-6,0-6. Freshman, Sarah
Icovozzi stepped in at number six singles and
lost to Kovats 4-6, 4-6.
Overall, Southern Wesleyan University beat
the BC women’s tennis team with a score of
8-1.
Both the BC men’s and women’s tennis
teams will face-off with Pfeiffer University on
Saturday, Feb. 29,2020 at 1 p.m. at the McCoy
Tennis Complex.
