BC literary and arts journal
now available online
Chiaroscuro, the Brevard College literary
and arts journal, has been published for the
2019-2020 academic year with more than
25 contributors of poetry, fiction, theatre,
nonfiction and visual art.
The coronavirus pandemic disrupted plans
to print and distribute copies this spring, but
an ebook edition (in PDF format) is available
online at bit.lv/chiaroscuro-2020e. Print
copies have been ordered, and they will be
distributed in the fall when we reconvene
on campus.
The issue is the culmination of a year
of work by Chiaroscuro staff under the
leadership of editor Alexis Henley, a senior
English major from Mount Holly, North
Carolina. In addition to Henley, other
staff graduating from BC this year include
Carmen Boone, Zach Dickerson and Chance
Holbrooks.
The issue is dedicated to Bret James
Stewart, a Brevard College bookstore
employee and BC alum (as well as a past
contributor to Chiaroscuro) who died in
February at the age of 46.
Published annually. Chiaroscuro has
served as the student-run literary magazine
at Brevard College at least since 1972,
when this title—an art term meaning the
treatment of light and shade to produce the
illusion of depth—was first used for the
campus magazine. An earlier magazine titled
“Confetti” was produced in the 1960s and
early ’70s.
