Brown, has announced that the Police Department will no longer question applicants regard ing sexual preference. According to The Healthy Closet, a publication of the First Tues day Association for Lesbian and Gay Rights, gay activists in Atlan ta feel that this step might be one that will improve the relation ship between gays and the Atlanta Police. Mary Davis, the Councilperson who worked with the gay community on this problem, said, "This action removes the barriers that allowed (open) discrimination." The ruling is not expected to lead to open recruitment of gays, fqr-the Police Department, but has been endorsed by gays in Atlanta as a positive step against discrim ination. The question that was removed asked applicants if they had engaged in any sexual conduct with a mem ber of their same sex in the last two years. ComiTiissioner Brown said that this particular question would be removed from the pre-employment and polygraph list of questions given to applicants. ncsu noontime discussions slated "Reflections", a series of noon time discussions on a wide range of topics of interest to the lesbian and gay male communities, is beginning its fourth semester at North Carolina State Univer sity. The programs consist of brief presentations, followed by a group discussion of the subject. Occasion ally, to facilitate spontaneous discussion, no topic will be set. Bring your lunch or purchase it at NCSU Food Service facilities in the building. The luncheons will be hteld on Wednesdays, f>?om 12 to 1 pm, in the Green Room, which is located on the fou2rbh floor of the NCSU Student Center. dj fired for "fag humor tt Memphis disc jockey Ron Jordan was fired on the air on May 29, after arousing controversy over his brand of humor, including his characterizations of "Bruce Puce" and "Ben Gay", and his "fag humor", according to the Front Page. Local gay people demanded and received air time to rebut Jordan's remarks. However, the remarks continued. Black people and other minori ties, 'also included in Jordan's characterizations, and a mental health agency had also made com plaints to the station. It is speculated that Jordan was fired be'-ause he refused to give up his style of jokes.
