■continued from oaoe 10) The incredible amount of energy and excitement generated last summer in the gay and lesbian community by these events led to the creation of a new, politically responsive entity which has been dubbed the Triangle Lesbian and Say Alliance. This organization has attracted virtually all of the Triangle’s gay and lesbian activists, several of whom are nationally known. The TLGft is fully underway with projects for Pride ’87, including the 2nd Pnnual March in Durham mid-to-late June, the Fifth Pnnual Stonewall Community Supper in Chapel Hill, and a major event in Raleigh (yet undecided) to coincide with Pride ’87. The purposes and functions of the Alliance are outlined in its Statement of Empowerment, which reads as follows: "The Triangle Lesbian and Gay Alliance strives to be a group dedicated to linking together the separate elements and interests of the gay and lesbian community. As members of many other diverse communities, we want to present a unified presence as lesbians and gay men. We want to strengthen existing ties and make new ones. The TLGA will create its own agenda, react as a unified front to controversies that affect our community, and challenge homophobia. We are dedicated to working on issues in our own community: racism, sexism, and discrimination based on class, age, faith, ethnicity, and ability. We aim to improve the social, political, and cultural quality of life for gay men and lesbians in the Triangle area. " The TLGA has already given its full endorsement and support to two very important national events. The first is the Mobilization For Justice A Peace in Central America ft Southern Africa, which will hold a march and rally in Washington, DC, on Sat., April 25, 1987.
