archives the CECIL W. ROBBINS LIBRAR LOUISBURG COLLEGE N.C. 27549 ®A.V^v»\S.V Vol. XXV No. 4 Louisburg College, Louisburg, N. C. Monday, February 20,1978 Christian Life Council Retreat Was Fantastic Cecil Donahue Fourteen members of the Christian Life Council (CLC) began an excursion Friday, January 27 that took them to several different places; some planned and some not expected. Three cars loads of CLC'ers left Louisburg at 4:00 and one was already on the way to Chestnut Ridge just outside of Durham. They packed warm clothes (the temperature was always below freezing), hiking boots, sleeping bags, recreational equipment, Bibles, paper and pencils, and open minds to take with them on the retreat. Contrary to popular belief, the group did not just sit around in a circle read the Bible and pray, although that was a part of the weekend. The group enjoyed a fellowship prompted by the common desire to escape Louisburg and the rigors of college life for 48 wonderful hours. They often went hiking through the many areas of peaceful woods, went canoeing on a partically frozen lake, breaking the ice as they went along (without mishap except for one girl who tried to walk on water but ended up with very wet and cold feet), played back gammon, charades, all kinds of card games (including a exciting ''rock" tournament), sang songs, cooked their own meals (with the food very graciously provided by Uncle Tom), and devised their own Sunday worship service. By the way, Chaplin Stafford received the coveted first place /'Rock" trophy by edging out Rusty Barath on a very contraver- sial stratigical move during the last hand of the "Rock" game. The competition leading up to the final round was quite intense. Our congratulations to Mr. Stafford on probably his greatest accom plishment ever! The 'Clothes Line' theme for the weekend discussions, led by David Moore, a Baptist youth minister, was "I am a person of worth created in the image of God Help Anyone! Anyone who would like to submit poetry, fiction, or other creative writing, contact Cherie Lassister in Wright 226. to live and to relate/' They spent several hours during the weekend examining this statement as to what it means to each individual. Each of them went on the retreat for different reasons. Some's hopes were fulfilled, others realized new, unexpected pur poses for going and some are just now realizing the full impact of the excursion to Camp Chestnut Ridge. The only sad part of the trip was that it ended much too soon. The CLC is tentatively planning another retreat in April. If you are interested please contact Chaplain Stafford or any CLC member. Smiles and Gigles were the order of the day for the CLC group on the retreat. Chaplain Sid Stafford and Rev. David Moore led the group in spiritual affairs.
