SGA President Resigns
State Of School Address
By Kim Hughes
Because of personal reasons I
sincerely regret at this time that I
am making a public announce
ment of my official resignation
from my office as President. I fee!
confident that Robert Matthews,
the current Vice-President of the
Association, can carry on where I
have left off. He is indeed a good
leader and will put the SGA above
any and all. I urge all members of
the SGA to give him your full
cooperation and support along
with the rest of the student body.
The remainder of the academic
year can be even more successful
and fulfilling for everyone if we are
all willing to give a little.
When I was elected as SGA
President, I had no idea of how
important it was to the student life
here at Louisburg College. I had
heard of the SGA but had not
taken part in it any shape, fashion,
or form. After the glory and
excitement of being elected had
settled, the reality of becoming
President hit me.
At this time I realized that for
me to become a successful leader
it would take a lot of hard work
and sincere dedication. Even
though I have put in many long,
hard hours trying to decide what
would be the best for you, I can
honestly say nothing has ever
meant more to me.
Being the President of the SGA
has given me a lot of satisfaction
especially knowing that the SGA
has become such a great success.
The SGA has quadrupled in size’
and amount of group participation
since last year. Every Committee
Member, Senator, Chairman,
Executive Board Member, Class
Officers, and Advisor should be
proud to say that they took part in
helping to build the strongest
"Student Organization" on cam
pus.
The SGA consisted of a variety
of Committees each having
separate jobs. The Executive
Board consists of Robert Ma
thews - Vice President, Maxine
Massenburg - Treasurer, Delphine
Alston - Secretary, Carol Stevens
- Entertainment Chairman, Becky
Fisher - Disciplinary Chairman,
Jim McNeil - Student Center
Cafeteria Chairman, Joy Wood
ruff - Elections Chairman, Teresa
Vogt - Publicity Chairman, Robert
Campen - Chairman, Dean
Pat Morgan - Faculty Advisor and
myself, serving as President.

Upcoming SGA Elections
The elections for 1981-82 SGA
officers will be coming up this
April, and students should be
thinking about running for these
offices.
To run for an office, a student
must have a 2.5 average, including
the mid-term grades for the
semester the election takes place.
The student also needs to be a
freshman, a full-time student and
be free from disciplinary sanc
tions. (Official Warnings Don't
Count].
bean Pat Morgan says that the
SGA posts involve a lot of hard
work, but that they are very
prestigious. 'The fact that you
were an SGA Officer stays on
youi record and looks good for
years to come. You go to Trustee
Meetings, and all other important
meetings at the college. When the
governor and state Attorney
General came to the college this
year, Kim Hughes got to meet
them." Dean Morgan went on to
say that an SGA Officer is a public
figure here at the school.
All in all, so far this year, the
SGA has done very well. There
was a great talent show in the fall,
as well as some good dances.;
Almost all the dorms have put on
money-making campaigns. Dean
Morgan expects to have another
great year next year.
What There Is
To Do At
Kerr Lake...
By Derek Wilkins
One concern of many Louis
burg students is what there is to
do on the weekends if they
happen to stay here at school.
This article is dedicated to one
particular spot that is not too far
away, if you happen to have a car.
Kerr Lake is a popular spot for
many residents of the Henderson
area, but it is also a favorite for
people as far away as Raleigh,
Durham, and even Fayetteville.
Construction on the John H. Kerr
Dam began in the late 50's and
was completed at the beginning
of the 60's. The lake has a
shoreline of some 800 miles or so.
To get to Kerr Lake from
Louisburg is not ail that hard and
should not take over forty minutes
to drive. You first get on North
Main Street in Louisburg and go
to N.C. #39 and proceed North
until you get to Henderson. You
should go through these towns
before you get to Henderson. First
you should go through Ingleside,
which is just five miles from
Louisburg, then you will go
through a small community called
"Epsom" and then another
community called "Middleburg."
Stay on N.C. 39 and you should
arrive at Henderson.
Upon arriving at Henderson,
stay on N.C. 39 and continue until
you come to the entrance ramp
for Interstate 85 North, get on 85
North and continue until you see
the exit for Satterwhite Point
Road, where you will exit and turn
left at the stop sign. Stay on this
road and you should drive right
into the Satterwhite Point part of
Kerr Lake.
There are many other places
that you could enjoy at the lake
such as Nutbush, where while you
are on the road to Satterwhite you
could have turned left at the first
Shell Station that is on the left
side of the road. Or if you had
stayed on N.C. 39, instead of
entering 1-85, you could have
stay,&d^>^ straight and gone to
Her^fr^n Point or Hibernia,
where ihere is better swimming
and beaches, because these
places are not visited as much as
the other places.
Also there is a place called
Meekins Marina that you can get
to by staying on 1-85 and
continuing on to the Norlina exit
and turning right after exiting the
