Canes Burst To Victory
By PAUL HENDRIX
The weekend of January 11th
and 12th, Louisburg College
hosted the annual Hurricane
Classic. The teams that took
part in this event were, Essex
Community College from
Baltimore, Maryland, Richard
Bland from Petersburg,
Virginia, and Ferrum College
from Ferrum, Virginia.
The first game pitted Essex
Community College against
Ferrum College. Essex came
into the Classic with a 9-3
record. Ferrum entered the
tourny with a 5-0 record.
However, as the first game drew
to a close, Essex made a diligent
effort to come back, but they
came up short when Damon
Keith missed a forty foot shot at
the buzzer. The final score was
77-76 in favor of Ferrum.
The second game of the
evening had our own Canes up
against Richard Bland College.
Richard Bland came into the
tourny with a 1-6 record.
Louisburg came into the
tournament with a 4-6 record.
Louisburg seemingly had no
trouble dispensing of Richard
Bland and went on to win 78-
65.
However, no one ever
thought that the “hot
panthers” from Ferrum
College, 8-0 record, could be
Cheerleaders Energized
If you have been to
any Louisburg College
basketball games lately, I am
sure you have found something
missing. That missing factor
was the Louisburg College
Cheerleaders. Well, they are
back and they are better than
ever. They are decreased in
number but increased in spirit
and enthusiasm. Returning
from the fall are Paige
Passavant and Amv Joseph.
Paige and Amy have worked
very diligently to see that this
squad is a siccess. The new
cheerleaders are Debbie
Norton, Kim Auelhke, Loria
Dunston, Meri Sherson and
Tripp Foltz.
Each cheerleader has
promised to bring spirit and
enthusiasm to the squad.
Keeping with the Dromise, they
also want to share their
excitement and pep with the
Louisburg College basketball
audience. See you at the
basketball game!

This set the stage for the
championship game between
the undefeated Panthers of
Ferrum and the 5-6 Canes.
The first few minutes of the
game saw Ferrum shoot out to
21-12 lead over ‘Louisburg.
This was the most expected
part of the evening.
But the unexpected soon
came when freshman Theodore
Edwards, from Walstonburg,
N.C. scored ten points to move
Louisburg into 28-21 lead. The
lead was never changed
thereafter. Louisburg held on
to win with a whopping score
Canes Wi
of 100-88 victory.
Edwards totaled 20 points on
the evening before fouling out
in the final moments of the
game. The Most Valuble
Player of the tournament,
Richie Bostic, had 24 points, 6
assists, and went ten of ten from
the charity stripe. Bill
Holcomb as well as Bostic were
named to the all-tourny team.
Holcomb ended up with 26
points in the championship
garne. The Canes should be
saluted.
