Men’s Basketball: LADY Canes READY
Ready to Shoot the Lights Out
The men’s basketball team,
coached by Enid Drake, take the
floor against Atlantic Christian
College, in Holton Gymna
sium on November 29, at 7:00
p.m. The excitment is building
as the team looks to improve on
last year’s impressive record.
“The team is pretty w^ell
rounded and we’re coming
along,” said coach Drake. With
three of their leading scorers
returning, the team will have a
powerful inside game as well as
a good perimeter game. "Right
now we need to work a little
harder on our defensive game,”
said Drake. The^team is ready
but faces a very tough schedule.
Both Coach Sheilah Cotten
and Coach Mike Holloman are
feeling confident about the
Lady Canes upcoming
basketball season. Tlie women
will play their first regular
season scrimmage against
Elon College on November 4.
Fundamentals have been the
major emphasis in early season
practice. With only two
returning players, Joann
Whitfield and Gloria Duggins,
the coaches feel that the players
must be brought along slowly.
Passing, dribbling, shooting
and individual defensive
techiiiques have been the
emphasis thus far.
The team will soon start
working to implement team
plays and strategy. Although
the team is fairly well rounded,
Holloman sites some weakness
in rebounding-an area they will
have to improve upon.
Perimeter shooting is one of the
team’s greatest strengths.
The Lady Canes play a 20
game schedule-three of their
first five are at home. “You
always play better at home,”
said Holloman. “We should
get off to a good start,” he
added.
