COLUMNS THE STUDENT VOICE VOL. 53, NO. 1 AUGUST 30, 1995 Felix checks out; Hurricanes check in! Felix stayed away from Lou- isburg, but the Hurricanes blew into town over the weekend of Aug. 19. Approximately 450 resident students, with the help of nearly 1000 friends and family mem bers, checked in, moved in and tried to settle into the residence halls before the first day of classes. As a result of the enroll ment increase some of the men found themselves checking into the basement of Hillman Hall for the first time in two years and into the basement of Kenan Hall for the first time in several years. A full slate of orientation ac tivities were in place for the first- year students to become comfort able with the college campus. Those activities ranged from tours of classroom buildings to discussions with second-year stu dents and an intramural fun-fest. About 100 students attended the Blizzard of Bucks game show that evening. Welcome back! This issue of Columns is dedi cated to the memory of Lois Strickland. Mrs. Strickland was taken from us in a traflBc accident Friday, August 18.
