NOMINATE YOUR PARENTS AS OUT
STANDING PARENTS
by: Christie Rudd
WAVES President
What is the outstanding parents award? How does it involve you and your parents?
The outstanding parents award is sponsored by WAVES and is presented on Parents
Day on October 21 in the auditorium. This award is a very special award given to either
one or both of your parents. "This award honors your outstanding parents. Even if your
parents are not nominated by the committee for this award, your parents will still recieve
a notice of your nomination by mail. It's always good to acknowledge our parents and
how outstanding they really are," said WAVES advisor Sue Guerrant.
In your nominating essay, you should include in your own words why you think your
parents should recieve this special award. The deadline for your nominations is Wednes
day, October 11 and should be turned in to Sue Guerrant in the Alumni Office. Nomina
tion forms can be found in the Ubrary, cafeteria. Alumni Office, Student Affairs, College
101 instructors, or from a present WAVES member or officer.

Controversy
"Ten" and "Ones" play two to decide
On Tuesday, October 3rd, a verdict was made
that would make us think about the future, have
several up in arms, and leave us with one real ques
tion:
Who won the softball intramural champion
ships?
Doc Taylor, spokesperson for the Wrighteous
Ones, lodged a complaint with Ervin Williams, in
tramural director, during the softball intramural
championship game on Monday night. The dispute
was over Derrick Daye. who plays for Louisburg's
Fall Ball Team. Ten Commandments players were
surprised by the appeal, as word of mouth spread to
them throughout Monday afternoon.
When asked why the officials did not call the
game when they noticed the illegal player. Williams
said, "It is not our responsibility. 1 can only listen to
a protest, discuss it with my assistants, and make
the decision." According to a letter issued by Will
iams, the teams were rescheduled to play on Thurs
day evening minus Daye.
Referring to the protest, J.J. Dewar said, "Doc
has to take it as he can get it. We know who won
the first game."
Another "Ten" teammate, Mark Asbrand,
said,"This has gone too far. The players are telhng
me that this is all Doc's idea."
