High Five By Erin Davis As a proud member of the finest class to step foot on the cam pus of the University of No/th Carolina at Chapel Hill (in case you're in doubt. I'm talking about the Class of 2005), I have yet to understand jiJfem, there is so rkjch hate directed at us. I mean, so what if "it^he whole hand^pVor our class, that fwto-rrtset^ ter. We can wave at our friendsVgive somebody tie hand, and ime. It's like killiiTO three birds the freshman clasi»i54.5 been represent 01' class all at the same with one st ne. In additi( n to "the whole hand , representin at every event. To pi. : it sinrrpfyTtbajtirass of'05 rolls deep (and I Jo mean deep). Can fou honestly tell me an event where we haven't been present? )ur enthusiasm for being here is evident in\he fact that we stijf attend Great H^l parties on a regular basis (unlike most of oiyupperclassmen counterparts). After talking with some of classmates, I've heard many dif ferent r^sons as to why w^^e the best. X'tq^d of mine, Jayl^ Chavez, t^W wia> is smarter, better plain kosher." While I do tend to agree with Jayla, I think I agree most with LaTosha Parker who said, "We know a lot of jseople and we ha\ e totally gotten involved in the BSi A. Our talent snow was hype, and we represent at all the events." That said, I think I've made it known as to why the Class of 2005 is the bes\ Sure, we lack some of the experience and expertise that our fellow upperclassmen have, but that's part of what makes us, as well Is our time here so special. Keep in mind that as you hate on us, ytu too were once in our position: the new kids on campus whafdon't really have a clue. Also...while you're so busy hating us^ome of you forget that there is the chance that you could slip ' and become a member of the Class of '05. To all of my won derful colleagues in the Class of '05,1 want to thank you for mak ing our class the tightest one ever. I Can't Hear You By Mallnda Hogans '04! Oh wait, I think my face has just been cracked. Yet again I put my 4 fingers up in the air, proudly shout '04!" and look around me to check out our class' representation, but to no avail I seem to be the only one tryin' to represent. I mean really, where is'04 at? We were all hype when it came to being the Class of 2000, but we got to UNC and it just all went down "the hill". Now I'm gonna keep it real, '02 well it's time for them to bounce (you know I luv y'all); '03 is straight up hype; and '05 is rollin' deep with the whole hand. Can '04 please get it together? But that's not why I wanted to write this. I am tired of everyone disre specting '04, but I can't even rightfully be mad becau« it's pretty much '04's fault. Now during the Homecoming Stepshow this year a miracle occurred, '04 was actually tryin' to represent, and while 1 should probably be overjoyed. I'm not. Why can't '04 rep resent at all functions, not just ones where they're sure to be seen? I've got much love for my fellow 'o4ers but 1 refuse to be disrespected. Now I'll give '02 and '03 there credit, they have laid a foundation by "leading the way," but what good is a foundation that is not built upon. '04 has already begun to fill the positions that '02 and '03 will soon abandon. In a way I have to give my class their credit, because although it may not be blatantly obvi ous, '04 is doing great things. We have accepted the leg|cy that has been left for us. We have accepted this legacy with ® much pridgiAtl^t we plan tci do everything bigger and better than those wjp came before usi So to those "mighty" seniors an|l those "^cr-excited" JuniorsVieed to respect '04, you did recriJt us so c )viously you knew vW would "take care g^usiness." fTo the I Tstoppable Class of 'o : remember that continuing | legacy t lat will soon enough t e your own, and^at you shall Is^l'n from L 5 as we have learned f om our"elderar My last words fo|'o4 are ji St a few reminders. C Dn't forget that it wasn't too long ago tl|at ti e buzz was all about the Class of Y2K; we were the ones w|io wWe going to take tie world by storm. Our title has changfed sli^tly, but we are^ill supp®se4~t^tee*#^«'»ffst wave change. So the time you see '04 being disrespected don t stand and stare.Jj^ that's not your fellow classmate, sti| those - - r the air; proudly shout '04, and ttwrr+rotf around and realize that we have just as much voice and power as any other class on the yard.
