Gerock, Jr. ’65 recent ly received the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement in the N.C. Air National Guard. A flight instruc tor in the 145th Tactical Airlift Group, Gerock lives with his family in Denver, N.C. G. Eric Staton ’68 is a captain with Piedmont Airlines. He and his wife Jane have two children, Greg, 11, and Emily, 8. 1970s Ron Choate ’72 and his wife Jane are the proud parents of a daughter, Jane Claire, born Feb. 17, 1983. Ron is a member of the UNCW Alumni Associa tion board of directors and operates C & S Paint and Wallpaper Center in Jackson ville. W. R. "Bob” Page III ’73, Wilmington division manager of Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company, has been award ed the National Quality Award for 1983 in recognition of the superior quality of service he gives to the public. Bob is a member of the UNCW Alumni Associa tion board of directors. Ronald Gray ’71 is financial manager for the Duke University Store System. He and his wife Joan have two children, Kevin, 4, and Melanie, 3. Dr. Martha S. Murray ’74 received her M.A. from East Carolina and her Ph.D. from N.C. State. She now works for the U.S. government at Ft. Bragg, N.C. Cathy Munns Jenkins ’74 and James Stephen Jenkins ’83 have a daughter, Sara Ann, born in January 1983. Cathy owns and operates Mighty Tidy in Wilmington. Rebecca Weathers Blackmore ’75 graduated last May from the UNCCH School of Law. She is now an associate with the law firm of James L. Nelson in Wilmington. Her husband, Jackie Blackmore ’74, teaches and coaches at New Hanover High School. George Irving ’76 and Linda Price Irving ’77 are the proud parents of twin daughters, Rebecca Jane and Rachel Elizabeth, who are 2 years old this month. George works for Corning Glass Works and Linda works for the Brunswick Coun ty School System. Steven G. Coleman ’76 and his wife Jeria are the proud parents of daughter Kayela, born in June 1983. Steve Shields ’77 recently opened a Wilmington office of the Property Casual ty Investigation Division of WESCAR. Laura K. Lolly Lockwood ’77 is a pharmaceutical sales representative for Dorsey Pharmaceuticals, a division of San- doz. Inc., covering northern Utah and western Wyoming. She lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. Russ Davis ’77 took the photograph which appears on the cover of the 1984 Sierra Club Engagement Calendar. Paul W. Dempsey ’78 is a pharmacist/ manager for Revco Drugs in Clinton, N.C. Michael K. Howell ’78 is now manager of First Citizens Bank’s Mission Valley Branch in Raleigh. Sara E. Winslow ’79 is a biologist with the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries in Elizabeth City, N.C. Harry Charles Craft III ’79 was co instructor for Audit 1, a one-week course conducted annually for entry-level ac countants employed by Cherry Bekaert and Holland, CPAs. The course was held in August 1983. Brian Redmond ’79 graduated from the UNCCH School of Medicine in May 1983 and is currently a resident in anaes thesiology in a hospital in Tucson, Arizona. 1980s James C. Godwin, Jr. ’80 is assistant human resources director at Henrico Doc tors Hospital in Richmond, Va. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. James C. God win of Matthews, N.C., are graduates of Wilmington College, classes of’54 and ’56 respectively. Katherine L. Foote ’81 is working on her Ph.D. in economics at N.C. State. Richard C. Warren III ’81 is animal health product manager and assistant manager of feed ingredients purchasing for FCX, Inc., in Raleigh. Pamela Evans ’81 is a flight attendant for Piedmont Airlines, based in Virginia Beach, Va. Anna DeBlois Bryant ’81 is a lab analyst for W. R. Grace in Wilmington. Tim Swatzel ’81, fishing aboard a Mur rells Inlet, S.C., headboat skippered by his brother Tom Swatzel ’80, set a new S.C. fishing record by catching a 40-pound gag grouper. Janet Aquino ’82 is vice president, secretary and treasurer of The Write Place, Ltd. in Wilmington’s Cotton Ex change. Her sister, Adele Cohn, is a cur rent UNCW student and is president of the firm. Wallace Ashley III ’82 is now working with the N.C. Department of Revenue in Concord, N.C. Charles Wilbert Davenport ’82 is manager and partner of Avenue Gardens Florist in Wilson, N.C. He welcomes re quests from alumni who want to send flowers in the Wilson area. Andy Erkes ’83 now works for the N.C. Department of Revenue in Fayetteville, N.C. Photo by Jean Farmer Kathy Foil, an art student at UNCW, carved E.T. out of a pumpkin and won first prize in a pumpkin-carving contest heid October 28. The contest was a part of “Pig l\1ania” week, sponsored by the University Program Board. FACULTY AFFAIRS Management: Who Ever Said It Would Be Easy?, a book edited and co-authored by Dr. Stephen C. Harper, chairman and associate professor of management and marketing, is now for sale. The book contains articles by Harper as well as by Thomas J. Watson, former IBM president; John Gardner, former Secretary of Health Education and Welfare; and Mark Silber an international management consultant William Woodhouse, associate pro fessor of Spanish, presented a paper dur ing the fall meeting of the N.C. Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Dr. Noel Jones, associate professor of curricular studies, presented a paper dur ing the fifth annual conference on cur riculum theory sponsored by the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing. Doretha Stone, lecturer in the nursing department, received her master of science degree in nursing from UNCG and has returned to teach in the ADN program. Dr. Sally Sullivan, English instructor, has signed contracts with Random House, Inc. to publish two composition textbooks she has written. Dr. Paul Jambor, associate professor of mathematical sciences, presented a paper at the summer meeting of the American Mathematical Society in Albany, N.Y. Have you moved? Dr. Lee M. Sherman, assistant pro fessor of management and marketing, co authored an article titled "Planning for Success” in the September/October 1983 issue of Managerial Planning. Dr. Robert Y. George, professor of biology and IMBR, was the keynote speaker at the Fourth Antarctic Biology Symposium at Wilderness, South Africa in September. He also delivered an invited lecture at the Institute of Oceanographic Sciences in Godalming, England in September. Dr. Marlene Rosenkoetter, chairman of the nursing department, has had a "Code of Ethics for Nurse Educators” published in the September/October issue of Nursing Outlook. §'s Dec. 10: pre-game social before N.C.
