February, 1969 The Gas Light Page 3 Sports Talk Individual Scoring Rebels Nail Eight of Eight The Gaston College Rebels, according to our most recent statistics, are batting 1000. They have captured eight out of their last eight conference games, which has boosted their total overall standing to twelve wins and 6 losses (all losses were non conference games). The Rebels, as reviewed in the last Basketball Press Release December 30, 1968, were tied with Isothermal for first place rating, each having a 4-0 record for conference games. Since that time the Rebels have hauled in another 4 conference victories. Among the players listed as “leading scorers” in the last press release, two of the players within the top ten were Gaston Rebels; Charles Hamilton was honored with fourth place by maintaining an overall average of 24.8 out of eleven games played, and his teammateLarry Reid beat out Denn Hayworth of Davidson for ninth place with an average of 16.4 out of eleven games. From the looks of things, Gaston had no trouble hitting from the free throw line, Gaston, according to the December Release, place four Rebels within the top 7 averaged from 20 or more attempts. Beirut Wall captured the position of 3rd leading free thrower in the conference with a 30-24 record, 77 per cent. Team offensive and defensive leaders in compliance with the release was Isothermal in both accounts, but, at the time, they had completed only 5 games compared to our 11. For a more recent evaluation - here in the Community College Basketball Report, which should give us a better look at the players and how they have been performing.
