November 9^ 19/i.2 Page. L- OUR GIEE CLUB 9 VJe have all heard the saying bird in the hand is worth two in a bush," but we have gone mod ern and changed it to, -singer in glee club is worth two singers ourside.” It seems that most of our students are aware of this fact, and are giving their all to ward the making of the best glee club ever to be at Gardner-Webb Junior College. Our glee club, consisting of fifty (50) members, has begun s3me earnest work under the direction of Hiss Liartha Jessup. Her un tiring and ceaseless efforts hav made it possible for our school to be represented at both the Kings Mountain and Sandy Run Associations. . ViTe have be^^n handicapped some what due to the lack of music, but Ttfork is being or>5^anized very! fast, and marked Improvement is I now evidenced. j V/ith the work already begun oh| the "ir.essiah," our glee club > should be able to turn out one of the best musical Christmas ^ programs in the state of Nol*th Carolina, The greatest interest ever in ■ the history of our college is being shown in the glee club this year, and we know we have nothing to keep us from making a success' of it. It takes regular atten- I dapce, hard work, and determi- ! nation, to make • a glee club v/e ]• can be proud of, but we have what it takes. With this in mind, 4; nothing can stop us from acc- * omplishing our task. Vife are aware of the fact that | the glee club gives.us a greater* appreciation of music, and arouses an eagerness to learn more about I it. All this is true to say, j nothing of the training it gives ■ our voices. " Not only does our glee club ■ mean much to us, but v;e hope it i will mean much to our college. In (Cont. in col.) B, 3. U. News 4- Some of the B, 3. U. members on the campus were very excited on Thursday, October 22. You probably would have been too if you had known that you were to leave .the next morning about six- thirty for the -state B. S, U. Convention at-Raleigh, This convention waa-:a _"higtiiight'» that 'they had looked forward to for such a long time. It was held from October 23 through Oct ober 25. Those attending were Jenny Lou Self, Sara Frances Wal ker, Evelyn Roberts, Kat Elam, Libby Alexander, Rachel Brown, and Hazel Matheson. The theme for the convention was "Keeping Christ Pre-eminent." ;;hen they returned, the group gave interesting discussions in chapel on the thoughts they gath. ered. from the various forums.- CHAPEL SPEAKER 77e were very pleasantly sur- i prised at chapel the other day when Rev. L. L. Jessup, pastor of the Second Baptist Churdh in Shelby introduced to us a distinguished looking speaker. He was Rev. H. L. T'ryant of Hampton, Va., who is conducting a series of revival meetings in Shelby. Rev. Bryant’s home is in the area where so much work is being-done in defense pldtnt: and shipyards, so-we wer-e expect'^ ing a talk on this, but, instead he spoke on the four H’s-of Christianity. The Christian lii is; (1) a happier life, (2) a hollier life., (.3) a harder life and (4) the most hopeful life. It was a very inspiring message to us college students, and we enjoyed it very much. order to do this, we must keep up our interest, our diligent work, and never ^ive up to anything.
