Class of 1936 Elsie Irene Dixon is now Mrs. Thomas A. Johnston and lives at Apt 201, 2316 40th Pl„ Washington, D. C. Sara Elizabeth James (Mrs. Lester Knox) lives at Cliffside, N. C. The father of Mrs. P. G. Allison (Sallie Pearl Allen), Mr. Thad Allen of the Ross Grove section, died on January 13 of heart trouble in the Shelby Hospital. Class of 1937 We have little information and few addresses for the members of the class of 1937. Won’t you write us and let us get our records up-to-date? Margaret Prances Jones is now Mrs. Milton Loy, and we have her address as c/o Lance Packing Co., Atlanta, Georgia. Class of 1938 Verda Mozelle Costner married Wi'ight P. Parker and lives at Gastonia, N. C. Laura Dixon Greene is now Mrs. Roy Lee Conner of Shelby, N. C. Edith Holland Hamrick married J. D. Bridges and lives on Pickett Road, Route 1, Durham, N. C. Rachel Barron Huggins and Carl H. Hedrick, both identified with the class of ’38, are married and live in Boiling Springs. Rachel is the daughter of Mrs. Huggins and the late J. D. Huggins. Class of 1939 Mrs. Goldie Dixon Owens, of Kings Mountain, was made president recently of W. O. W. Circle in Kings Mountain. Rev. E, P. Bennett lives at Route 3, Morganton, N. C. Rev. D. Boyd Cannon, President of the Alumni Association of Gardner-Webb College, is pastor of the Ehzabeth Baptist Church, Route 3, Shelby, N. C. Mallie Louise Davis married Fred McBrayer. Her address is Box 630, Shelby, N. C. Evelyn Mae Greene, now Mrs. W. S. Davis, Jr., re sides at Route 4, Shelby, N. C. James Y. Hamrick is now a teacher in the English Department of Gardner-Webb College. Professor Ham rick received his Master’s degree from Peabody College in the summer of 1947. O. P. Hamrick, Jr., lives at 505 Shawnee Drive, Mont gomery, Alabama. Aileen Jones, since 1941 Mrs. J. Warren Gamble of Shelby and Kings Mountain, lives at 1233 South La fayette St., Shelby. Aileen combines her duties as home maker with that of Secretary to O. Max Gardner, Jr., and Ralph W. Gardner in the Webb Building, Shelby. For the past three years Aileeh has done secretarial work for the Board of Trustees of Gardner-Webb, has assisted the collection chairman in raising money for the Building and endowment funds of the college. She is at present associate treasurer of Gardner-Webb. Class of 1940 Jow Foch Compton was reported killed on March 2, 1S43, in the Southwest Pacific Area. He was a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. R. C. Doggett, Jr., was killed in a plane crash in the spring of 1942. ' Ruby Lee Dixon married W. A. Sides, Jr., and re sides at La Porte City, Iowa. Class of 1941 Bertie Lee Kendrick, was due home from Hawaii about the first of May. She has been a missionary there and at near by points since leaving the Seminary. Bertie Lee is the sister of our Olen Kendrick who is now iii school. Sarah Carolyn Blanton teaches in Hickory, North Carolina. Betty Lou McClure is reported at the University of North Carolina, where she is doing graduate work. Class of 1942 Hillary Magness and Wilson W. Padgett both of the class of ’42 are married and living in Port Worth, Texas, attending the Southwestern Theological Seminary. Wil son will complete his third year training there in July after which they are returning to North Carolina. Their home is blessed by a ten month old Rebecca Wilson Padgett, a future alumna. Their address is 4701 Town send Drive. The Rev. E. B. Hicks was recently called to be come Pastor of Eastside Baptist Church in Shelby, he took up his work there April 18th, Hicks has been in the ministery for eight years. He is from Rutherford County. Class of 1943 The Rev. Eugene Poston is a student Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky., where he expects to take another degree this spring. He writes us that he has a picture in his mind “of the greater Gardner-Webb campus with a sea of flowering youth flooding it with all the optimism of tender hearts and open minds.” Eugene’s address is 128 Stilz Ave., Louisville, Ky. Beuna Mae Roberts is secretary and bookkeeper of the Cleveland Gas Company, Shelby, N. C. She writes: “I have been sticking to it pretty closely except for my vacation weeks I spent at Ridgecrest. I live with my Mommie and Daddy ten miles out from town and my sister and I drive back and forth to work each day. ' Tell Miss Watkins her faithful efforts in trying to ‘learn’ me some bookkeeping and shorthand were not in vain but are bearing fruit and benefiting the public. The Cleveland Times listed me in their ‘Brains behind the Brains’ column December 2, 1947.” 11
