Class of 1944 Joseph Edwin Cabiniss, on December 5, 1947, claimed as his bride Miss Norma Jean Parmer of Bluefield, West Virginia. Cabiniss is now employed by the Shelby and Cleveland County Loan Association. His many friends at Gardner-Webb welcome Norma Jean to her new home in Shelby. Rosa Philbeck is now Mrs. Paul Hodgen, Box 473, Rutland, Mass. Verdie Chapman graduated at Wake Forest College in 1S43 with a major in Religious Education. In the summer of 1945, she was Educational Director of the Arlington St. Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, N. C. In 1947, Verdie married George G. Gaskill. They are now at Princeton,, New Jersey where George is a student at Westminster Choir College. Verdie is continuing the study of Voice under Mrs. Lorean Hodapp. She writes, “Give my regards to all there, and I wish it were possible to tell you just what that College means to my life.” Marietta Hamrick is now teaching In the Biology Department at Woman’s College (U. N. C.), Greensboro, North Carolina. Clyde F. McAlister is Bursar at Gardner-Webb. He married Ann Lawrence of White Plains, N. Y. Both Clyde and Ann graduated from Furman in 1945. Margaret Louise Washburn and Oscar Ray Godfrey were married on February 27, 1948. Louise holds a posi tion with the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte, and her husband is employed by a Charlotte Oil Firm. Their address is 1241 North Allen St., Charlotte, N. C. Best wishes to you both. Miss Sarah Virginia Bankhead Is now Mrs. Herbert Neal of Charlotte. Class of 1945 Mary Grace Queen graduated in 1947 from the Univer sity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with an A. B. in Jour nalism. While at Carolina she worked at the University News Bureau where she received much valuable ex perience and made many interesting contacts. She is now a newspaper reporter for the Shelby Daily Star where she does most any type of writing in connection with a newspaper such as writing feature stories, cover ing a “beat” in town, or editing correspondence from the county. Evelyn Harrill of Route 1, Lawndale is teaching in Polkville High School. Jacqueline Huskey married Dan Hughes and works at the Shelby Supply Company. Elizabeth Seism and Mary Keeter graduated at Ap palachian (Boone, N. C. ), and are teaching In Mecklen burg County. Bernice McMurry is a senior at W. C. U. N. C. Bernice was out of school for one year and taught at Casar before going on to school. While at Gardner-Webb, She was president of the student body in her sopho- Margaret Roberts graduated at Wake Forest and is teaching at Gastonia High School. Colleen Hill is with the Rutherford County Welfare Department in Rutherfordton. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina. Ruth Elna Ware is now Mrs. Norman King of Kings Mountain, N. C. Margaret Wacaster is Mrs. J. D. Baldree. Sam Monroe Greene, Jr. is a student at Carolina. Sam’s dad is an alumnus of Gardner-Webb. Class of 1946 Iva Jean Kincaid and Robert Hoyle Season are married and living at Chapel Hill, where “Bob” is study ing Pharmacy. They were recent visitors on the campus. Ila Mae Davidson died on October 16, 1946. Saranan Morgan is at George Peabody College, Nash ville, Term., according to our latest information. Martha Connor is making a fine record at Carson- Newman College, Jefferson City, Term. Martha was crowned Queen of the Homecoming at annual cere monies held on the football field there in October, 1947. Ruth Eller is a Senior at Meredith College, Raleigh, North Carolina. Dorothy Franklin married John Beam ’47. They are living at Jefferson City, Tenn., where John is in school at Carson-Newman College. Catherine Lattimore is a Senior at Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina. Dorothy Mitchell of Greer, S. C., Student Government President in her Class of ’46, has recently been elected to Zeta Sophia, Honor Society for women at Furman University, where she is a Major in Education. Dorothy is one of fifteen out of one hundred fifty to receive this distinction. Only the upper 10 percent of the class may belong. Myrtle Whitaker is a Senior at Wake Forest College. Iva Spake is now Mr. William J. McClure of Buffalo, N. Y. Class of 1947 Suthell Walker is now a Psychology major at Carson- Newman College, Jefferson City, Tenn. Maynard Ledford writes us that he likes State Col lege of the University of North Carolina very much. He says all his courses from Gardner-Webb were ac cepted and he is passing the technical courses with pretty good grades. He also says he is glad he came to Gardner- Webb and sends greetings to all his friends here. Linda Lee Lovelace of Shelby, and Thomas (Pete) McBrayer of Forest City were married on February 19, 1948 in Shelby. Louise Towery was recently married to Robert Stone wall Gold of the New House Community. Louise was a Home Economics Major. Bob is a graduate of Polkville High School, served in the Merchant Marine during World War II, and is now employed as manager of the H. H. Gold and Sons, Route 5, Shelby, N. C. Friends of Gardner-Webb wish you a very happy life together. Robert Gold is the son of an alumna of Gardner-Webb, we believe. Merle Dotson, Biology lab assistant here in 1946-47, is now a Biology major at Wake Forest College where she is making a good record. 12
