Random Glances at Alumni 1930-1946
Our alumni are scattered far and
wide and are engaged in various
businesses. We have listed with
what information we have a few
people from each college class. A
future issue will be devoted to the
high school classes.
Our information is limited, but
we would like to know about the ac
tivities and whereabouts of all our
former students, both high school
and college. We shall appreciate any
information you care to share with
us. We shall also be glad to cor
rect any mistakes we may have

CLASS OF 1930
First graduates of the College:
Butler Pruett, 320 Montlieu Ave
nue, High Point, N. C. He received
his A.B. from Limestone in ’32;
M.A., U.N.C., ”42, and is now
principal of the junior high school
in High Point. He married Miss
Rosalie McMurtrey, former librarian
of Gardner-Webb. They have three
children. Dean Mac, Marilyn, and
pavid.
Leland Royster, graduate of Wake
Forest and Louisville Seminary. He
is now pastor of Cooleeme Baptist
Church, Cooleeme. He married Ber-

is now a member of the faculty of
the Shelby City Schools.

Hubert Huggins, graduate of Wake
Forest College, is pastor of First
Baptist Church, Dallas, N. C.
Troy D’urham Bridges, attended
University of North Carolina, and
is now a machinist for Belmont
Knitting Company, Belmont, N. C.
CLASS OF 1933
Sara Lee Hamrick, after leaving
Gardner-Webb, attended Meredith
College, She married Vernon Kiser,
also class of ’32. He is now the ope
rator of Kiser Feed Store, Shelby,
N. C.
Eunice Hamrick, R. N. of Shel
by Hospital. She served in the arm
ed service during World War II.
She is now employed in the office
of Dr. D. T. Bridges, Lattimore,
N. C.
CLASS OF 1933
James Cornwell, Lattimore, N. C.,
is secretary of Lattimore Oil Com
pany. He married Sarah Hamrick.
They now have three children;
Carolyn, Charles, and George.

New York City. Her father. Dr.
George J. Burnett, President of
Gardner-Webb, 1938-1940, is Execu
tive Secretary of the California
State Mission Board. Mrs. Burneti,
is at their home, 1364 Vinton. Mem
phis, Tenn. We were glad to have
Dr. Burnett visit the campus and
community in October 1948.
D. W. Moore, Jr., Boiling Springs,
N. C., received his B.S. from Fur
man in ’39. He taught science at
Gardner-Webb from 1934 to 1940.
After his army career, he married
Bettye Akin from Tenn., and re
turned to Boiling Springs. He is now
teaching science in the local high
school.

Louise Brown, a graduate of
Meredith College. She married John
Blanton. Louise is now a member
of the faculty of Lattimore High
School. John is an electrician.
James L. Jenkins, a graduate of
Wake Forest. He is now on the
staff of Raleigh News and Observer.
He married Ruth Byers.
Charles B. Padgett, Rutherford-
ton, N. C., a graduate of N. C.
State; M.A. from University of
Georgia. He is assistant county
agent in Rutherford County.

Marietta Price, Union Mills, N. C.,
a graduate of Meredith College and
W.M.U. Training School in Louis
ville, Ky. She married Nolan How-'
ington, also an alumnus of Gard
ner-Webb, who has his M.A. from
Wake Forest and his Th.M. and;
Th.D. from the Southern Seminary
in Louisville, Ky., and is now pastor
