APRIL, 1961 THE PILOT PAGE FIVE Campus Big Wheels Gaylord Lehman The B.S.U. of Gardner-Webb hi a new president, Gaylord Lehman of Inman, South Carolina. Gaylord has proven himself to be one of I he ablest and most outstanding members of our freshman class. He is a member of the Choir and the science club and has made the honor roll regularly. It is evident that we (an look forward to a revitalized B.S.U. next year under his proven leadership. Honors are not new to Lehman, he earned many in high school. Gay lord was president of his senior class, Editor-in-chief of his high school annual, and a member of his school paper staff. He was also a member of the glee club, Beta Club, and journalism club. His scholastic average was exceptional also for during his four years in high school he maintained an “A” (95) aver age. Gaylord even found time to take part in athletics. For two years he played football as a hard-hitting half-back. He lead his team in i coring one season. His leadership and character was recognized when he was selected to represent his school at “Tar Heel Boy’s State.” At graduation Gaylord was show ered with honors. He was listed in '.he - senior’s Who’s Who and was ifjted the most likely to succeed. Then too, he received the medal ffiven each year to the most out standing senior. He, also, received the high school journalism medal as well as the high school English Recently Gaylord was elected an escort for May Day here at G, W. by popular vote. When quizzed about his future Gaylord stated flatly rhat he was undecided, but he is looking forward to advanced work i 1 a senior college, perhaps Wake Forest. His friends here are certain that he will make a success at whatever he decides to do. is Frank Haddox, a 1941 graduate of Colombia High in Colombia, Louisiana. While there he was on the softball team, a member of the P.F.A r of tl Prank, who is a ministerial student, is now acting as vice-president of the Christian Volunteer Band. He says he hopes to go to Louisiana Baptist College upon completion of Charles Rabon, a 1949 graduate of Camden High, Camden, S. , been chosen as Sunday School sup erintendent. This year he ' ber of the choir, Christian Volun teer Band, and International Rela tions Club. For further studies in his ministerial career, Charles wants to go to Baylor University. Jim Trantham, another ministeri al student, will be publicity chair man. As a student at Canton High School, Jim was in the music and handicraft clubs, played football and Jack Holt Jack Holt will be president of the Student Government of Gardner- Webb College next year. His elec tion to this high post of honor and responsibility reflects the confiaence of our student body in his charac ter, ability, and leadership. Jack is X man of high-idealism and fast ac tion. He is equally at ease and just as effective behind a speaker’s ros trum as he is on the gridiron. Jack’s success as a smooth-working, fast- thinking quarterback has earned him his classmate’s admiration, and his tincerity and humility as a mini- Tial student has earned their re- Jack attended Gray High School of Winston-Salem, N, C. where he held a long series of important of fices. He was secretary of the stu dent body as a sophomore, president ol the Hi-Y Club as a junior, and president of the Key Club as a senior. In addition to being sup erintendent of various departments. Jack took a very active part in all the major sports: baseball, basket ball, football, and tennis. Jack was ■hosen “player of the week” by a Winston-Salem newspaper, and his press-clippings alone would fill a scrap-book. He pitched baseball for four years, played as forward in basketball for four years, and quar ter-backed his gridiron squad for three years. How Jack finds time to study here at G.W. is a mystery but the fact -emains that he has a good scholas tic average in spite of his many extra-curricular activities. It has been rumored that he has an in spiration at Meredith and there is picture on his desk to prove it. Jack is a sincere ministerial student is planning to attend Wake Por- after graduation from here. Jim is looking forward to going to Wake Forest to further his education. Mollie Hawkins, B.S.U. choister, held a number of offices while at tending Lowell High School. She was president of the Bible club. Li terary Society choister, assistant chief monitor, and president of the home economics club. In her chur she was pianist. Story Hour Leads and Sunday School teacher. Mollie is a religious education major. Faith Johnson of Magnolia is our new director of Training Union. Faith is president of her Sunday School class, and secretary of her Training Union. In high school she was president of her Sophomore class, vice-president of her junior class and chief marshal, and was Valedictorian of her graduating class. Faith is majoring in Bible. Jo Lena Bridges of Shelby is pres dent of Y.W.A. She was president of her senior class in high school and president of the Beta Club. She was also captain of her basket ball team. Max Linnens has been cTn president of the Christian Volun teer Band. Although he left high school at the age of fifteen, he '■eems to have no trouble making an A average. Be.sides making these high grades. Max is full time pastor of the East Baptist Mission in Gas tonia. Max, whose home town is Graham. N. C., is married and has two children. Marquean Ross is a music major from Morganton. In accordance with what she is majoring in, Marquean was chosen as pianist for the B.S.U. In high school she was pianist for the school glee club and a member of the honorary society. This year she is pianist for the Christian Vol unteer Band.
