APRIL, 1952 THE PILOT PAGE THREE Delta Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity Organized At Gardner-Webb A big step has been taken in our college Dramatics De partment with the organizing of the Delta Psi Omega Dra matic Fraternity. On Thursday, April 10, after an impres sive induction service, nine charter members were initiated by J. Y. Hamrick, faculty sponsor for the club. He was as sisted m the ritual by Mary Dean Minges, Sara Cooke and Martha Stone. Requirements for membership in the cast of Delta Psi Omega are rigid and membership in the Fraternity is indeed an honor. Mary Dean Minges was elected Director or Vice-President, Sara >.ooke was elected to the responsi- PqJI of Onininn Bility of Secretary and Ti-easurer ^ WpilliUil and Martha Stone will serve as the Publicity Director. The remaining members of the Fraternity are: Joy ce Hamrick, Bobby Heffner, Don Bynum, Zeb Wright and Charles Rich. ■‘Delta Psi Omega was organized March 20, 1929, as an honorary dra matic fraternity for the purpose Oi providing an honor society for cho^e domg a high standard of work m dramatics and incidentally chrough the expansion of Delta Psi Omega among the colleges of the united States and Canada, provide a wider fellowship for those inter ested in the college theater. The fra ternity is not intended to take the place of the regular dramatic club or other producing groups, but as students qualify, they are reward ed by election to membership in this society. Play production is an ac tivity highly technical that it re quires the services of a trained di rector and all the resources of a large dramatic association organized on the most democratic basis where every member of a student body may have equal opportunity for self ex pression." The Gardner-Webb cast of Delta Psi Omega is already at work set ting up its constitution and by-laws, using as a guide those things sug gested by the national organization. The Delta Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity has an annual pubUca- tion entitled The PlaybUI. The pur pose of this magazine is “to afford college and university dramatic or ganizations opportunity to acquaint themselves with what is being done oy their contemporaries and to serve the Fraternity as an official organ. ’ There are many Casts of Delta Psi Omega in North Carolina, Among these are Mars Hill Junior College, Wingate Junior College, Lees-McRae College, Pfeiffer Junior College, Presbyterian College, and Jjouisburg College. Delta Psi Omega means “The Science of Voice and Drama.’ is the pm-pose of the Gardner-Webb Cast to promote the highest in dramatic arts and to instruct members to strive for constant im provement among its membersiiip along these lines. Later in " spring, the Fraternity will have other initiation for those people who will have, by then, qualif for membership.
