BOB ESTES ELECTED PRESIDENT
May Day Coronation
Held May 2, 1953
ROYAL COURT, SPECTATORS, AND
SAUCY MEN OF ROBIN HOOD JOYFUL
AS QUEEN REBECCA AND KING
DONALD I “GET CROWNED!”
PRES. ESTES
It is with extreme gratitude thac
I humbly and prayerfully attempt
to express my feelings toward being
elected President of the Student
Government at such a wonderful
school as Gardner-Webb. I felt hon
ored to even be a nominee in the
first place; being elected has magni
fied my esteem even more; but it
will not cause me to cease with the
ideas that I first went into the
task with. The words of my plat
form may have been thought of as
strong by many; I assure you that
my actions will be just as strong,
just as pointed, just as beneficial,
just as helpful to the student as I
intended for them to be.
I pleaded with you to vote for
the man who you considered would
serve to your well being once he
got into office: it was stated several
times during the campaign season
to vote for the officers of the Stu
dent Government seriously — not to
make a popularity contest out of it.
I believe you have done thus, and I
wish to thank you for the confi
dence and faith you have put in me.
No matter how high a candidate’s
aims are, no matter how earnest and
sincere he is, it is all to no avail if
the candidate isn’t elected. My
aims were high and my intentions
were sincere and earnest. I accept
my post gladly and humbly, keep
ing the original purpose in mind.
A special added vote of thanks
to my campaign manager, Charles
Sherer, and to all the fellows that
had a direct hand in my campaign.
They did a wonderful job! Thanks
to the many voters I had, also. I
also desire that the supporters of
my opponent will now become my
supporters, for I will definitely need
everyone’s utmost cooperation.

EX-PRES. HENSON
As the school year draws to a
close and new College Government
officers are elected, it makes us
think back over the year and recall
our accomplishments and activities.
This year at Gardner-Webb has
had its effect on all our lives, just
as any year will have its effect on
the life that follows. We who have
been interested with the responsi
bility of the Student Government
office for the past year have cer
tainly derived a great deal of bene
fit from the experiences. We have
acquired a knowledge of the princi
ples of administration which will
never leave us. We sincerely hope
that we have measured up to your
expectations and that we have been
loyal to the wishes of such a fine
student body.
We are proud of the record Gard-
ner-Webb has made in the last
year. But continual improvement
should be the watchword of any
institution. As we leave college and
take our places in the highly com
petitive society in which we live,
we expect eventually to surpass the
accomplishments of those who we
replace in our respective fields. The
same principle should guide the Col
lege Government Association from
year-to-year. We hope that the Col
lege Government will improve each
year, no matter how good it was the
year before.
Having served in our present of
fices for a year, the offices of the
present College Government Asso
ciation are, I believe, in a good po
sition to supply some suggestions to
next year’s Student Body on how to
break records.
You have elected a papable group
of officers for the 1953-54 school
year, and with Bob Estes as your
