Football season with all its fun,
excitement, and color is here again!
Oh.eering our players on to victory
will be our new squad of cheerlead-
SOPHOMORES
Joan Cline, of Cherryville, is the
Chief this year. This is Joan’s sec
ond year of shouting for the Bull
dogs. Joan, who plans to teaoh Phy
sical Education, is one of our top
girl basketball players; last year ^e
was Co-Captain of the girls’ team
and was voted to the girls’ All-State
basketball team. Another of her
honors last year was being chosen
as the Maid of Honor on the May
Betty Jean Wall, a Business ma
jor from Mountain Park, is cheering
for the team for her second year,
also. Betty was a cheerleader for
two years in high school, and was
Chief her second year. She was also
Vice-President of her class in high
school as well as being an active
member of the Monogram Club and
the F.T.A. Last year Betty Jean
was on the May Court.
Another sophomore, Vivian Mc-
Knight, of Advance is one of the
new girls on the squad this year.
She was a cheerleader for two years
in high school. Vivian was also a
class president, a class secretary,
and a class treasurer; also, she was
an active member of the Monogram
Club and the Beta Club.
Mary Dicie Locklear, of Pembroke,
is a Liberal Arts Major. She was a
cheerleader in high school, as well
as a majorette; and “Mert” was an
active member of the Dramatic
Club, and President of ttie F.H.A.
Maxine Davis and Carolyn Cuth-
bertson, both of Marion, are our
Maxine was a member of the F.T-A.,
the Beta Club, F.H.A., annual staff,
and a library assistant. Carolyn, a
Church Secretarial Major, was a
member of the Beta Club, the An
nual Staff, F.H.A., F.T.A., and was
Sophomore Class Vice - President.
CSarolyn is also a hall prootor and
m_ember of the Woman’s Self-Crov-
ernment Association.
FRESHMEN
Charmaine Austin, a Liberal Arts
Major, is from the Queen City of
Charlotte. In high school Char
maine was president of the Honor
Society, editor of the Annual, sec
retary of her Jimior and Senior
Classes, Chief Marshal, and Treas
urer of the Girls’ Good Sports Club.
Sue Tranthram, of Canton, who is
a Business Major, was a majorette
in high school for three years. She
was also a member of the Student
Joan Parks, of Concord, who is
planning to teach in high school, is
anotkher of the freshmen. Joan was
a member of the Bible Club, Dra
matics Club, and the 4-H Club in
high school.
Our other freshmen cheerleader
is Shirley Green of Mooresboro, who
plans to teach in grammar school.
She was a member of the Beta Club,
4-H, President of the Freshman
Class, Vice-President of the Senior
Class, and a Marshal, along with
playing hasketball.
We would like to commend these
girls for their fine school spirit and
v/ish for them continued success as
they lead the G-W Bulldogs on to

In 1950 Mr. Moseley married Emi
ly Dearybury of Clifton, South Caro
lina. They have one son, Arthur,
who is four years old.
Mr. Moseley is also the city
chemist for Shelby and holds top
certification in the North Carolina
Water Work Association, He is a
member of the American Chemical
Society, N. C. W. W. A., and ad-
of Alpha,
National Honorary
Chemical Society.
Above all, Mr. Moseley wants to
be remembered as “an average guy
trying his best to ‘help someone.”
