VERLY EARLY IN
THE MORNING
By Hazeline Smith
And when the sabbath was past,
Mary Magdalene, and Mary the
mother of James, and Salome,
had bought sweet spices that
they might come, and anoint
him.
And very early in the morning the
first day of the week, they came
unto the sepulchre at the rising of
And they said among themselves,
ho shall roll us away the stone from
fihe door of the sepulchre?
And, behold, there was a great
earthquake: for the angel of the
Lord descended from Heaven, and
came and rolled back the stone from
the door, and sat upon it.
And the angel answered and said
unto tihe women. Pear not ye: for
I know that ye seek Jesus, which
was crucified.
He is not here: for he is risen, as
he said. Come, see the place where
the Lord lay.
But go your way, tell his disciples
and Peter that he goeth before you
into Galilee: there shall ye see him,
as he said imto you.
And tbey remembered his words.
And returned from the sepulchre,
and told all these things unto the
eleven, and to all the rest.
And their words seemed to them
as idle tales, and they believed them
Then arose Peter, and ran unto
the sepulchre; and stooping down,
he beheld the linen clothes laid by
(Jiemselves, and departed, wondering
in himself at that which was come
But Mary stood without at the
sepulchre weeping: and as she wept,
she stooped down, and looked into
the sepiUchre,
And seeth two angels In white
sitting, the one at the head, and
the other at the feet, where the body
of Jesus had Iain.
And they say unto her. Woman,
why weepest thou? She saith unto
them. Because they have taken away
my Lord, and I know not where they
have laid him.
And when she had thus said, she
turned herself back, and saw Jesus
standing, and knew not that it was
Jesus saith unto her. Woman, why
weepest thou? whom seekest thou?
She, supposing him to be the gard
ener, saith unto him. Sir, if thou
hast borne him hence, tell me where
thou hast laid him, and I will take
him away.
Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She
turned herself, and saith unto him,
Rabboni, which is to say. Master.
Jesus saith unto her. Touch me
not; for I am not yet ascended to
my Father; but go to my brethren,
and say unto them, I ascend imto
my Father, and your Father; and
to my God, and your God.
May Magdalene came and told the
disciples that she had seen the

Wake Up! America! Wake Up!
By Jerry WesI
res, wake up America and realize
at is ahead of you. Wake up to
; fact that if you do not change
u- ways nothing but doom and de-
1 be your destiny.
We all know that the wages of sin
are great and because of the sins of
America I see into the not so far
away future.
I see America completely destroy
ed because of her sins. I see her tall
white buildings lying crumble and
charred, her great highways up
rooted and filled with the troops
from the aggressive coimtry; I see
her cool clear mountain streams
filled with blood, blood from our fel
low countrymen. I also see home
less families, and orphan children
lying beside their dead parents cry
ing for food. I further see concen
tration camps dotted over our land
giving cruel treatment to those who
have survived the great atomic war.
Wake up America! Wake up! Do
you want this to happen? No, of
course not, but if we do not ask for
forgiveness of our sins, this will
surely come. We must fall upon
our knees and beg; we must return
God and salvation to our country!
Perhaps you think God does not
punish because of sin, but, if you
will open your Bible, you will find
this is not true. Remember Sodom
and Gomorrah were both destroyed
by a rain of fii'e. Also remember
yiow the earth was de
ter because of man’s sins. Yes, God
does punish and He will if that is
the only way He can get us to turn
to Him.
Wake up America! Wake up! The
dark cloud of destruction is hover
ing over your head. There is only
one way to destroy this cloud, by
turning toward God and accepting
Him as your personal Saviour. By
doing this the cloud is destroyed
and America is strengthened. If
this is not done I am afraid that
there is nothing left for America
but hell-fire and damnation!
Wake up America! Wake up! All
the modern-day weapons will not

PUBLISHING A COLLEGE NEWSPAPER

though there is something fascinat
ing about working on a newspaper,
it is not all play as some would
think.
The first phase of publishing an
issue concerns assigning, writing,
and collecting the material for the
forthcoming paper. Among the
headaches and problems a staff
must cope with, is getting the arti
cles in on time, and then getting
them proofread. That ever threat
ening deadline has to be met.
Then there is the problem of mak
ing the layout for the next issue;
this usually takes several hours of
hard work on the staff members.

RELIGIOUS WEEK
HELD
By Sue McClure
An unusual opportunity for both
students and faculty of Gardner-
Webb College was offered in the
Focus Week of March 9-13. Our
theme for the week—“Students Fac
ing the Master” was very challeng
ing. A part of each day was set
aside for spiritual meditation dur
ing the week.
A number of facts will interest
you in connection with Religious
Focus Week. The purpose was to
show the student how he could live
a Christian life in any vocation,
whether it be housewife or physi
cian. Each morning Monday through
Friday during the chapel hour one
of the visiting team members spoke
to the student body. There was a
worship service at 7:00 each even
ing, Monday through Thursday in
the auditorium; also featuring one
of the team members.
Teachers or students who wished
a personal conference with one of
the team members had an oppor
tunity to confer with the member
during the day. This was a vital
part of the Focus Week.
After the evening service at 8:15,
seminars were held in the differ
ent groups. The purpose of these
seminars was to enable the students
to raise questions in a group dis
cussion led by a visiting leader.
At the close of the activities for
the day, team members visited the
dormitories for informal discussions
■which were on any subject the
student wished to be brought up.
Most of the students had the pri
vilege of becoming more closely ac
quainted with one of the team mem-
l)ers as they visited in the class
rooms during the entire week.
These guests came to classrooms on
the request of a faculty member or
by request of one of the students.
