Events will begin with the Founders Day Chapel program on Oct. 23 and con clude with the Homecoming football game the night of Oct. 24. On Friday, Oct. 23, beginning the events will be the annual chapel program concerning Founders Day in whiah students will be instructed about the purpose of and reasons for the activities. A pep rally is slated Friday night. Late Saturday morning, events begin once more with an 11:30 Alumni Association meeting fol lowed a highlight of the two- day session, at 1 p.m. luncheon meeting. At this meeting the former presidents and principals will be honored and guest speaker will be Dr, Theron D. Price, head of the Department of Re ligion at Furman University, Greenville, S. C. Former principals of the Boil- ing Springs High School were J. BSU Convention i Slated Nov. 6-8 j In High Point Green Street Baptist Church, High Point, North Carolina, will host the annual North Carolina Baptist Student Union Conven tion on the week-end of Novem ber 6-8. Some 1,000 students from colleges throughout the state are expected to partici pate in the conference. In addition to personnel from the Student Department of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Baptist chap lains from the variotis rrvllen'es in the state, and student lead ers, the following persons will be leading periods of worsihip and discussion: Dr, W, Perry Crouch, General Secretary- Treasurer, Baptist State Conven tion of North Carolina: Dr. Wil lis B. A formal opening for the new men’s dormitory is set for 3 p.m. and special guests will be in dividuals and organizations who furnished rooms in the dormi tory. Old grads, friends^and college personnel will eat barbecue at the gymnasium from 5-6 p.m. before the football game. Dur ing the barbecue the foorball players, coaches and cheerlead ers will be presented and a Bulldog Club report made. The Homecoming game will be with Ferrum College of Vir ginia with the Homecoming Queen to be crowned at half- time by Dr. Poston. C. ALLEN BURRIS Faculty Member Receives Ph.D. C. Allen Burris, professor of history and government at Gardner-Webb College, this month successfully completed work toward his doctorate from Duke University at Durham. The Ph.D. will be officially given Dr. Burris in the spring of 1965 graduation ceremonies at Duke University. Dr. Burris’ dissertation was on “Arthur James Balfour—As A Political Leader: Party, Pow- er, and the Constitution, 1891- 1905.” He and his family were in London, England, for six months while Burris did re search work at various univer sities in that nation.
