Malcolm “Chico’’ Singleton picks ap yardage against Lees-McRae College’ in Gardner-Webb’s Oct. 16 clash with the Bobcats. Singleton was a \Ag gun in the Bulldog offense which racked up 298 yards rushing against the hapless Bobcats while defeating them 19-6. This victory, the second of the season over Lees-McRae; brought home the WCJCAC Cham pionship for the Bulldogs for the second season in a row. The Bobcats' proved a tougher meal for the Bull dogs in the first meeting as they succumbed to the Bulldogs 6-0. Hoopsters Take Floor by Jerry Moore All the huffing and puffing you hear from the direction of the gym is not the “Big Bad Wolf” but G-W’s basketball team going through another practice. Under the direction of Coach Eddie Holbrook, the Bulldog.s are looking for another good season. After a slow start last year the Bulldogs went on to win tlie tournament champion ship in Forest ('ity. IIo|)es are high that this can be repeated and moves made to stakes. Eeturning from last year’s championship team are: Dennis “Chile” Childress, an all-con- ferenee, all Region 10, all tour nament player from Mt. Airy; Kenny Beam, an all-tourna- ment player from Belmont; Joel Carroll, from Hudson; Butch “Javelin” Rogers from Hickory; Ronnie Bray from Jonesville; Cecil “Towhead” Atchley from Forest City; Rick Holbrook from Danville, Va.; and Jerry “Yank” Moore from higher Portsmouth, N. H. JOEL CARROLL . . . 6-4 Bulldog center scores on George Pos ton in an intra-squad scrimmage as Cleve Rayfield moves in. These three big boys, Joel George 6-5 and Cleve 6-5 will give added scoring and rebounding strength to the Bulldog cage game. Freshmen who will be wear ing the red and black for the first time are: Bruce Morrow from Forest City; Drew Brid ges from Hildebran; Cleve Ray field from Stanley; George Pos ton from Bethel; Rudy “Ea gle” Reeves from Canton; Mike Tolley from Greensboro ; and Gerald Gardner from Hampton- ville. If the Bulldogs make it through pre - season practice, things should work out for a successful season. 1965-66 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE FOR GARDNER-WEBB Nov. 23 Kings _ _ Home 26-27 Wingate T’ney Wingate 30 Anderson _ There Dec. 2 Montreat Anderson There 9 Spartanburg. , Home 11 Furman Frosh Chase Hi Jan. 5 Clinch Valleyof Univ. 8 Davidson Frosh Charlotte 8 Davidson Frosh Charlotte Col. 13 Lees McRae Home 15 N. It seems that a green-ho)rn basketball player from North Greenville says he can hold “Chile” to six points and “Butch” to a big ZERO. It seems funny that the whole N. G. team last year could only hold the two of them to a total of 48 points. But, good luck Buddy, you’ll need it. LOST — COST Lee’s McRae’s lost (6-19) to the mighty G-W Bulldogs not only cost them a lost, but also the WCJC Conference cham pionship. This is the second year in a row for Coach Harris and the Bulldogs to win the conference title. Congratula tions are in order for the “team,” Coach Harris, and Coach Spencer. TRACK TEAM LOOKS FINE —HOLBROOK RANKS NINE A recent magazine article in a sports magazine has listed r.ome of the outstanding track men in junior colleges today. Among those listed is Harold Holbrook, a sophomore here at 5 N. Greenville _ _ Home 10 Wingate . . _ _ Home 12 Sandhills . This was also good enough to rank him ninth in the nation. This year he is hop ing for a big 55’ which would insure him with many honors. At the present Harold and Jim Nolan are entering indoor track meets. Good luck, and we hope to see many records broken this year. TENNIS TEAM BOUNCES TO VICTORY The same day the G-W foot ball team trounced Lee’s Mc Rae, our tennis team handed them a loss in a practice tennis match. The tennis team is out prac ticing every day and by the time the tennis season rolls around they should be about perfect (seeing that it is 5-6 months away.) INCROWD — MAY BE OUT!! Looking to intramural foot ball, which is one of our rough er sports on campus. It seems that the Incrowd, with star- studded players like “Coot,” ‘ ‘Cookie, ’ ’ “ Kingdom, ’ ’ Mar shal, Charles, Duanne, and the Big Man himself Basil Bullard Jr., think they have the title wrapped up. However, there are a few teams who think dif ferent. So the Incrowd may end up the Outcrowd. Which ever way it goes, good luck anyway, men.
