GARDNER WEBB STUDENTS ATTEND
MONTREAT CONFERENCE
At Montreal, N. C., this Thanks
giving all boundaries were broken
as 85 students from around the
world enjoyed the traditional feast
together. Among those present were
four students from Gardner-Webb.
Saad Ghaowi, Abdul Massih Aziz,
Paul Washburn and Jean Gurganus
enjoyed the festivities as well as the
new dimension in world politics.
Years ago this Thanksgiving Con
ference was under the control of
the Southern Baptist and was held
at Williamsburg. When the project
was abandoned, the North Carolina
Baptist Student Union added it to
its yearly activities. This is the sec
ond year that it has been conducted
at a state level. Student Comittee
for the conference was headed by
Jean Gurganus, Sandra Wells and
Julia Cauthen with Bob Hyatt of
Duke and Dr, Bill Smith of the Stu
dent department acting as advisors.
The Conference was held at As
sembly Inn at Montreal. The first
official meeting was the traditional
Thanksgiving Banquet at which
everyone introduced himself and
placed a pin on the map in his home
country. An International Hoote
nanny and Square Dance followed.
The perfect opportunity for every
one to get acquainted.
Friday Morning began with a lec
ture on the relationship of Faith
and Science. Speaker for the Con
ference was the famous Dr. Eric
Rust, a native of England, and pres
ently of Southern Seminary. Discuss
ion groups were set up in order
that points might be cleared up for
all.
Immediately after lunch everyone
boarded the buses and headed for
the Cherokee Indian Reservation
for an informative and fun filled
afternoon.
Saturday was the day that didn’t
eend. Breakfast together was follow-

ianity and other World Religions.
Needless to say, discussion followed
and was ended only by the dinner
bell. The afternoon was a delightful
trip to the Biltmore Mansion. The
group arrived back at the Inn just
in time for supper.
The highlight of the Conference
was the International Talent Show
held Saturday night. American,
Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian
and Liberian songs and dances fill
ed the room. After the talent show,
movies of two countries were shown
and the evening was climaxed by
two hours of roller-skating. When
everyone finally got back to the
Inn, no one slept. Native costumes
and National Anthems were shared
until the wee hours of the morning.
The. weekend was concluded by
a worship service conducted by Bob
Hyatt, and two students. The prayer
was that the world might someday
enjoy the Peace and fellowship that
they had seen manfested that
Thanksgiving Holiday.

Dear Editor;
I am writing this letter to question
the rule prohibiting dancing on the
Gardner-Webb Campus.
Now that the football season has
been completed there is little rea
son for students to remain on cam-
puss during the weekends. As a
result, the social aspect of our col
lege life will suffer immensely. Hav
ing an occasional well-supervised
dance would serve to keep students
on the campus. Holding dances
would prevent some students from
being involved in off campus trou
ble that might mar the Gardner-
Webb image.
1 feel that the students possess
the maturity to conduct dances in
a Christian manner. Surely the fac
ulty can consider my plea to abolish
the rule prohibiting dancing on the
Gardner-Webb Campus.

Early in the morning toward the
last day of the semester.
There arose a great multitude smit

And there was much weeping and
gnashing of teeth.
For the day of judgment was at

And the were sore afraid, for
they had left undone
Those things which they ought
And there was no help for it.
And there were many abiding in
the dorm
Who had kept watch over their
books by night.
But it availed them naught.
But some were who rose peacefully.
