Music to decorate floats by - they sing like the dickens The Stroup Construction Crew THE PILOT FIRST PARADE -NEW SPRimS Boiling Springs not only got its namesake returned in three fold fashion Saturday but had its first parade of consequence in history. It was Homecoming and the 42 unit parade proved a suc cess as beautiful weather at tracted 2,500 onlookers. The Cherryville High School Band, the Chase High School Band and the college pep vand took part along with Congressman Basil L. Whitener of the loth District, Ted Abemethy of the Cincinnati Reds, Dr. and Mrs. E. Eugene Poston, president of Gardner-Webb College, Homecoming Queen candidates, cheerleaders and a host of floats. The gaily decorated floats were interspaced with horses, convertibles carrying beauty queens, clowns, Professor M. A. Moseley and son, Arthur, on motorbikes, student gov ernment officers and other u- nits. The prize winning float was the Rotaract’s Whale. As for the town’s names ake — three boiling springs now push water up and send it plunging down over huge boulders into a pool which is part of a beautification pro ject at the college. The old springs, located west of the new artificial ones, do not boil any longer due to be ing dynamited in 1939 in an effort to combine them into single boiling spring. Since that time the town’s name has lost some meaning and residents occasionally take ribbings over the fact. Residents obviously were proud of the boiling springs which are located close to the center portion of town and with in eyesight of most visitors passing through the smalltown. THURSDAY.
