Webster And Hibbard Win SGA Election Sandy Webster and Billy Hib bard won the recent election to finally fill out Gardner-Webb’s Student Governmentforthe’69- ’70 year. Sandy, a junior from New Bern, N. C., will assume du ties as secretary-treasurer for the Student Government. Billy, also a junior, will take over as newly elected vice-president while at the same time will serve as chairman of Alpha Nu Omega. Billy makes his home in Charlotte. Running against Sandy was Shirley Young, and against Bill, Rick Williams. Sandy and Bill received the majority of the 496 votes divided among the four candidates. Installation of the new Stu dent Government officers took place Oct. 9 in a student as sembly. Approximately one-third of the student body voted in the election. Students Vote For Homecominff Queen IRQ at pn Alnhn . , . . On Sept 29, 1969 at an Alpha Nu Omega meeting, the pro cedure for selecting a Home coming Queen was presented by Mrs. Holbrook. The motion was made and passed that the Homecoming Queen and atten dants should be chosen from the sophomore and junior class. The election for Homecoming Queen will be held in chapel October 14, 1969. The list of girls who qualify for the honor of becoming the Homecoming Queen depends on the grade point ratio and the standings the girls have with the school. This list of eligi ble girls was presented to the Student Activities Committee. The Committee then chose 12- 15 girls to run for Homecom ing Queen. (If a girl felt she had the qualifications for run ning for Homecoming Queen, and she was not nominated, she could petition to run. The pe tition was to be signed by 30 students.) The students will vote on their own Homecoming Queen. The five girls who re ceive the most votes will be come the Queen and her at tendants. The Homecoming Queen will be presented at half time during the Homecoming game on October 25, 1969. Happenings Canceled Reports spread that The Hap penings would appear in con cert at Gardner-Webb on the 24th of October. The 24th is the beginning of Homecoming week end, and the fun was to begin at tte concert from eight o’clock The Happenings’ contract was being secured when the group made a public mistake concern ing dnigs. Det. Lt. J. V. Bailey identified the three members of the group as Reggie Miller, Michael Angelo Laneve, and David B. Lebert. The executive committee voted to cancel The Happenings in the light of their arrest for drug possession. As Mr. Tom Poston said about the entertainment committee: “The committee has a certain posi tion to occupy, and we want en tertainment to be in line with Questions Plague Homecoming W eek-End As the paper goes to press, the complete Homecoming pic ture has not been decided. The Happenings are leaving a large dent in the weekend’s en tertainment program. Assof to day a replacement has not been found for the concert on the 24th. Who will G. W. find to replace the Happenings at such a late date? Reports indicate that Mr. Poston is trying to secure the Wayfarers, out of an agency in Charlotte. A smaller, more lo cal group than the Happenings, their cost is much less. The money saved will be used to secure a more prominent group for a later date in the year. This way, the students will have an enjoyable weekend to look forward to in the near future. The next question that is un settled at this time is the one about the parade. Will therebe a parade? Some of the students might say: “Why have a parade in a small town like Boiling Springs?” The Pilot answers this question by saying that Homecoming is always essen tial to every college or univer sity. The floats boost the team’s spirit, and they also create at mosphere for Homecoming and the reigning of the Queen. If the parade is organized, the different organizations will have to find a place to build the floats that they sponsor. Although everything else is ufdecided for Homecoming, the open house has not been can celled. Open house means boys aje legal in girls dorms and girls are legal in boys dorms. There will also be a basket ball scrimmage on Homecom ing day, the students will get a preview of the basketball sea son for ’69-’70. the policy of Gardner-Webb College.” Gardner-Webb re grets that the incident has cau sed a delay in acquiring enter tainment for Homecoming. Pro cedures are being taken to cor rect the gap in entertainment L r arJ— I Notice j I All overdue book notices will ibe posted on the bulletin boards in the CID building, the Science buUding, the Library, E.
