Patrick Spangler, of Shelby, was hon ored by Gardner-Webb College when the college’s Board of Trustees named a $400,000 men’s dormitory in his honor. Spangler has served the coll- §ege as Chairman of Its Board of Trustees, has twice led the college in capi tal fund drives, and was recent- ily elected Vice- Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Board’s Executive Comm ittee. The three story brick dor mitory was built four years ago, but had not been named. It houses 96 men in its 48 Proposed New Dorm Spangler is a native of She lby and is president of Spangler’s Ready Mix Concrete Company, of Shelby and Kings Mountain and also president of Shelby Sand and Stone Company. He serves as treasurer of Span gler and Sons Inc., of Shelby. In 1965 he served as general chairman of the college’s cap ital gifts campaign when $2,625 000 was raised. He is now ser ving as national chairman of a campaign which has a goal of $ 1, 500,000. The Jun iors were asked if tliey would like to have a Junior-Senior Prom and 124 students “yes” and 75 “no”. The question which received the least response asked spec ifically which committee each student would be willing to serve on. Thirty-two students want ed to work on the program committee, ten on the finance committee, nine on the food committee, and 30 on the de corating committee. When asked if they would be willing to work on a pro ject to help raise money, 145 students replied, 79 saying “yes” and 66 “no”. The question with a definite majority was the last question which asked the students if they were opposed to having any types of Junior-Senior whether it be a pi'om, banquet, or a picnic. Masquerade Ball Jan. 15 Planning Gets Underway Keep in mind the date of January 15, 1971. This is the date of what may turn out to be Gardner-Webb’s first annual mas querade ball. Seven mini-committees’ are hard at work putting together a layout of festivities tentatively including: costume judging ov,— ^ mini-movies, and various yet faculty talent show, contests , unnientioned activities. Tickets may be obtained early next semester, ‘dress-up’ ready; plan now not to be recognized. Get your Election Of Queens-Location Of "^^Bulldog^^ Considered In Student Activities Action The Students Activities Com mittee met on Wednesday, Dec ember 2, 1970. A Pilot repre sentative was present. The following items of discussion are of interest to students. The Committee recognized a need for student involvement. One matter of discussion con cerned establishing guidelines for nominating campus queens. The Committee would welcome student opinion on methods of nominating and electing queens. Should nominations be made by the student activities com mittee and other nominations by student petitions or should all candidates be nominated by petitions? Another item of business con cerned a welded structure entit led “Bulldog” which was given to the Student Affairs Office by Mr. James 0. Hamrick, a local artist. The Committee discussed the placement of the “Bulldog.” Student reaction and opinion on placement, such as a display case in the “Bull dog Room” of the Charles I. Dover campus center or out doors with a protective covering are welcomed. The "Bulldog” is for the enjoyment of the student body and student opin ion on a permanent location for it is requested.
