SGA News The Student Senate convened on Tuesday, April 11 with a rec ord number of students in attend- After the invocation by the Sen ate Chaplain Dr. Thomas Ballard and the approval of the minutes and roll call by Secretary Shirley Young, the order of business in cluded reports from officers and standing committees. Senator John Chandler reported from the Rec reational Facilities Committee con cerning their income for the month of March. The revenue for the month included $690.30 from flip per machines, $74.40 from foose- ball machines, $59.50 from the juke-box, $333.70 from pool, and $2.20 from the vending machines which totals $1158.10 revenue. The expenses included $578.50 which gives a total profit for the month equal to $579.60. This in come statement in relation to the balance gives a total asset of $4585.63. President Jeff Cranford report ed that the Student Emergency Loan Fund had granted eleven loans which totaled $426.00 loan ed. There is $5,000 in the Emer gency Loan Fund. The Student Handbook Com mittee reported that the handbook was in the hands of Mr. Tom Poston and ready for the printer. The report from the Senate Chapel Committee consisted of the tabu lated report of the questionaire survey sheet completed by .about 700 dorm students concerning chapel. The results of this survey were taken to the faculty chapel committee. Unfinished business consisted of the appropriation of $200 from the Recreational Facilities Committee funds to cover the expenses of the president and vice-president elect of the SGA and next years’ PILOT editor in attending the annual SUSGA Conference. The Confer ence was held in Miami on April 19-21. Attending from Gardner- Webb were Jeff Cranford, Karen Hardin, Steve Riddle, Burt Skin ner, Carolyn Santanella, Steve Wilson, Samala High, Gay Greene, and Donna Ellington. Also Mr. Bill Briggs and his wife and Mr. Tom Poston accompanied the students. The Senate passed a motion ap proving the following persons as Judicial Body appointees: Defense Council—Bill Buchanan and Mike Bumgardner, Trial Council—Sam Hopkins, Charles Wilson, and Tom Parker. A call senate meeting was held on April 17, 1972. A motion was passed that section 7 of the campus code be revised to read as follows: Students dress informally for all campus and classroom activities. The informal dress should be clean, neat and in good taste, re flecting the best standards in our social structure, as judged in ac cordance with the constitution and by-laws. Men: Appropriately dressed at all times with hair neat, clean and well styled. Women: Appropriately dressed at all times, with hair neat, clean and well styled. Miss Barbara Wallwork of Char lotte, N. C. has been elected to reign over the Spring Jubilee ac tivities April 28-30. Members of her court will be Ella Harrison of Greenville, S. C., as the senior class attendant: Ste- Sunday, May 14, will make Gardner-Webb minus 277 students, as they graduate with BS, BA, or AA degrees. The Bacralaureate ser- mon will be held at 11:00 and the graduation ceremonies at 3:00, both in the Bost Gymnasium. Speaker for Bascalaureate will be the Rev. Ernest C. Upchurch of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention. The graduation speaker is Rev. Coy Privette, pas- ■ tor of the North Kannapolis Bap tist Church of Kannapolis. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES The Undergraduate Record Ex amination will be given to all grad uates Friday, May 5, from 9:00 -2:30 with a break for lunch. Those student teaching will take the exam on Saturday. Gradua tion practice will be held imme diately after the exam on Friday, at 3:00 in the gym. On Saturday, May 13, from 2:00 -4:00 Dr. and Mrs. Poston will host an informal drOp-in recep tion at the President’s home for all graduates, their spouses, and parents. Saturday night. May 13, all ’72 graduates are invited to an Aluijini Banquet in their honor at 7:00 in the dining room of the CID. Each graduate will receive a complemen tary pass to this banquet. At this time the Alumnus of the year will be announced, elected by the trus tees for service to Gardner-Webb. Also the Class of ’72 will be ac cepted into membership and Dis tinguished Service Awards given to alumni for service to their church, community, and Gardner- Webb. The field day will include a tug of war, greased pole climb, and other contests, with prizes to be offered. Barbara and her court will be formally presented at the Spring Jubilee Ball at 8:00 on Friday eve ning. The Ball theme is “Spring Celebration” and will feature the music of Bill Deal and the Rhon- dells (see picture on page 6). As the activities continue on Saturday there will be brunch and cartoons at 10:00 and a Talent Showcase featuring G-W talent at !2:30 on the porch of the O.M.G. The President’s reception will be held at 5:00 in the CID. "Climax” will present a concert at 8:00 Sat urday night in Bost Gymnasium. Parent’s Day on Sunday will close the week-end activities with the academic departments open to parents, a concert of music by the College Choral Ensemble and re citals by Miss Beth Martin and Miss Diane Brittan. The Art De partment will have an exhibit in the OMG and the Theatre Arts Department will give two one act plays there also. Open house is planned for all dorms during the afternoon. NOTICE The ’72 ANCHOR is be ing given out. Please re member that if you have not carried at least 12 semester hours in the fall and 12 in the spring then you have not paid all activity fees. Therefore, before you can receive yor ’72 yearbook, you must submit $5.00 to the business office for each semester you carried less than 12 hours. You must then bring your receipt to 112 CID in order to receive your yearbook.
