Nedimyer was a starter three years at Wake Forest University, and following graduation remained at Wake Forest as graduate assistant and last year was freshman defensive line coach and handled the scout ing duties for the Deacons. Coach Nedimyer fills a vacancy caused by the leaving of Coach Cole Proctor who accepted a position as head football coach at Morris town, New Jersey. Mr. James Taylor, tennis coach at Gardner-Webb, is on leave this year doing graduate work. He is a English professor at GW. Mr. P. A. Cline, professor in Biblical and Ancient Languages, will be replacing Taylor a s tennis coach. We welcome Mr. Cline to the sports scene. Dr. Robert R. Blackburn, chairman of the division of physical education, has had an article published on the movement and develop ment of a playground. It was published in the summer issue of the North Carolina Journal, a publication of the North Carolina Associa tion of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. The article tells how Dr. Blackburn with a group of Gardner-Webb physical education majors along with the teachers and administration of the local elementary school teamed with the tovl'n of Boiling Springs to transform a vacant area near the school for a modem playground. Dr. Blackburn said that three positive things came out of the pro gram. The children got a first class playground, linesi of cooperation were established between three groups and physical education majors at GW were involved in actual doing instead of all theory. Great school spirit was demonstrated by the student body of Uni versity of Wisconsin at Eau Claire at the National Basketball Tourna ment in Kansas City last spring. Let us, the student body of Gardner- Webb support our teams and cheerleaders this year. G-W 1972 Football Schedule Date Team Place Sept. 16 Newberry Newberry, S. C. Sept. 23 Samford Birmingham, Ala. Every phase of cheerleading was taught — tumbling, stunts, cheer- leading techniques, psychology, and routines. Mrs. Eddie Holbrook, advisor feels this will become an annual event due to the tremendous re sponse and knowledge brought back by the cheerleaders. “The attitude of the cheerleaders was really changed in a very positive way and they are fired up to go.” One student who had cheered in high school and is on the GW squad for her second year replied that “for the first time I really felt like a cheerleader and realiz ed the meaning of what it was to be on the squad.” Each day they were judged on , their performance. Bulldogs Prepare For Opening Tilt Injuries have hit the football camp as the Gardner-Webb Bull dogs are making preparation for game one of a brand new season. . Most of the injuries were bruis es and sprains, which the coach ing staff hopes will be cleared before the September 16th opener with Newberry College in New berry, S. C. Offensively the Bulldogs will again depend on their passing game to keep them going. Senior Quarterback, Ray Hannon, is back and shooting for his third straight thousand yard year through the air. Hannon passed for 1441. yards his sophomore year and added 1203 last season. A welcome returnee will be Ken Reid, who was out for the season last year with a leg injury.
