Page 4, THE PILOT, Wednesd ^, ^5, 1972, Gardner-Webb College CIRUNA Qub CIRUNA is the Council on In ternational Relations and United Nations Affairs. Its purpose is to study local, national and interna tional affairs, to interest each member in these affairs, and to relate their significance to him. All students are eligible for mem bership in this organization. CIRUNA is a national student coalition dedicated toward con structive change in American for eign policies, and building critical support for the United Nations, its charter, and the Universal Dec laration of Human Rights. It is a channel through which students and young people throughout the country funnel their ideas and opinions to the top governmental and corporate leaders on interna tional issues. CIRUNA is the only national network of students working the creation of better in ternational understanding in this society and has approximately 500 affiliated campus groups. Some of the objectives are to develop a body of effective stu dent leaders in international af fairs, not simply leaders of other students but individual are able to link the various elements of American society together at tb® community level for the purpose of understanding global problems and urging effective American ac tion for their solutions; these are some facts and objectives of the national organization of CIRUNA. The local chapter has a project underway involving a series of lectures by representatives of var ious groups on campus. Examples of the groups are foreign students, women, faculty and freshmen. X Cruu't 9 w X sW4tfc Psychology Club Alpha Psi Omega The purpose of the Alpha Psi Omega is to stimulate interest in dramatic activities by promoting and producing plays that will de velop and train the student in speech and drama. A student must be an active participant in the college theatre arts depart ment, take part in play produc tions by either acting or working behind the scenes, and maintain a satisfactory scholarship to be eli gible for the club. The Pi Upsilon cast of Alpha Psi Omega honorary drama fra ternity initiated nine new mem bers on October 2, 1972. The new members are: Judy Stamey, Boil ing Springs; Judy Greene, Richard Suttle, Charlotte; Paul Chang, Boil'ng Springs; Danny Spillman, Walkertown; Beth Honeycutt, Lawndale; John Byrd, Belmont; John Fowler, Cowpens; and Sue Hunnicutt, Black Mtn. Assisting in the ceremony were Wanda Louise Haynes, President; Sharon Capps, Vice-President; Stan Napier, Secretary-Treasurer; and Scottie Thomas. Dr. Charles Cox is the fraternity’s advisor- sponsor for this school year. FREE Prizes Given Away All Week First Federal Savings and Loan Association First Federal Savings & Loan Assoc In Boiling Springs The Psychology Club recently elected officers with the following students taking positions; Donna Turner, president; John P., vice ALPHA NU OMEGA The Interclub Council of GWC, Alph aNu Omega, elected Bob Decker, Chairman; Leland Kerr, Vice-Chairman; Pam McCall, Sec retary; and Debbie Gaskill, Gay Greene, Financial Coordinators. The members of Alpha-Nu Omega consist of the presidents or au thorized representatives of rec ognized campus clubs and organi zations. The purpose of ANO-ICC is to unify all campus activities, facili tate communication among cam pus activities, co-ordinate the schedule of organizational meet ings and activities, to further co ordinate organizational activities for accomplshing common objec tives, and to initiate new projects and club participation. A recognized club is one which has been approved by a majority vote of the ANO-ICC and the Stu dent Life Committee. Also the SGA Executive and Legislative branches and the publications are exofficio members with full vot ing privileges. Th emember organizations of Alp haNu Omega-Inter Club Council includes approximately thirty organizations. The council meets twice a month for a dinner meeting. president; Carolyn Robinson, sec retary; Heath Livingston, treas ure; Vickey Cobb, program chair- The purpose of the Psychology Club is to stimulate the interest of psychology majors in areas of psychology in the academic and the non academic worlds. Club activities seek to reinforce in a positive and contructive way the classroom lecture. The sponsoring of a dance at Western Carolina Center for exceptional children and a retreat type program dur ing the spring semester are two examples of the agenda for the club. '‘Miss Anchor” The ANCHOR staff has nomi nated twenty students for the title of Miss Anchor. She will be chos en on November 28, following a dinner. The judges will be two dies jokeies, one from Shelby and one from Kings Mountain, and ANCHOR editor, John Fowler. Miss Anchor will be presented to the study body during a chapel assembly. She will be selected on the basis of beauty, poise, per sonality, and school spirit. Alpha Chi-Honor Society Twenty-four new members have been invited to join the National Honor Society—Alpha Chi, Zeta Chapter. The induction of the new members will be October 30. The purpose of Alpha Chi s the promotion and recognition of scholarship and those elements of character which make scholarship effective. The new eligible inductees are Armenaz Nazareth Abajian, Mrs. Pamela Allen, Mrs. Andrea Sea son, Philip Bailey, Mrs. Ethel Bumgardner, Jerry Burleson, Carol Byerly, Sharon Capps, Timothy Champion, Patti Epiey, Anne Grimmer, Gloria Holt, Rebecca Hoyle, Mrs. Gladys Jones, Larry Ledford, Frank Page, John Panel- la, Mike Sisk, Mrs. Kathy Stubbs, Sidney Summey, Steve Walker, Melinda Whits, Pat Wood, and Samala High. All members of Alpha Chi must have a 3.4 OPR to be eligible for membership and a 3.2 in order to stay in the honor society.
