Page 4, THE PILOT Thursday, November 21, 1974 ^Musical Bobby Jones Bobby Jones, a senior Church Music major, di rected two of his own pieces of music in chapel on No vember 5. Due to a mix-up, it was not announced that the music he was directing was two of his own works. Bobby, who is assistant college and chamber chorus director, has written several songs. The first one that was performed by the Chamber Chorus during Chapel was In The Beginning. This song, first sung at Bobby’s high school, Chase High, was premiering at Gardner- Webb during chapel. I Music Department To Present Chapel Program The Gardner-Webb Col lege Choral Ensemble went on tour Sunday, November 12, 1974. Sunday morning, they performed at Yadkin- ville, N-C. and Sunday night, they performed at Le noir, N.C. The purpose of the En semble is to train those pri marily interested in Choral Music Education. The group strives toward perfection in phrasing, articulation, and tone quality. The music per formed is of a caliber and quahty that exemplifies the high academic standing of Gardner-Webb College. The Ensemble will be one of several music groups that will be participating in the Christmas Chapel program on December 3, 1974. The concert will also include the Concert Band, the College Concert Choir, and the “Up perclassmen,” a secular-ori ented performing choir, members being selected from the Choir, Ensemble, and Chamber Chorus. The Chapel program for Christmas is always re served for the Music Depart- Clinic is threefold. First, it exposes the student, through mass performance, to the choral forms of all great composers. Secondly, it provides an opportunity for group achievement. The third purpose is to give our students an opportunity to perform under the direction of some of the greatest musi cal clinicians and conductors of this age. Dr. Arpod Darazs, head of Choral Music at the Univer sity of South Carolina, con ducted the Clinic. Dr. Darazs’s unique contribu tion to culture is in the field of Music Education. He is regarded as the foremost au thority on the Kodaly ap proach in Music Education in the United States. The Kodaly approach empha sizes hand motion which es tablishes correct pitch. On a whole, the Choral Clinic was enjoyed by the participants and was a very informative session. Girls Ideas Considered (Continued From Page 1.) 12. Have you read the Student Handbook? Choral Clinic The fourth annual College Choral Clinic was held No vember 11 and 12 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church. The participants were all re cognized choral groups on the Gardner-Webb campus plus eight selected high school choruses from the surrounding area. A concert was presented Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. The purpose of the Choral at Gardner-Webb on Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9, 1974, to dis cuss teaching procedures and events of the past year. The seminar lasted from 3:00 p.m. on Friday after noon until 12:30 a.m. on Sat urday afternoon. The colleges represented (besides Gardner-Webb) were Campbell, Chowan, Mars Hill, Meredith, and Wingate. Activities began banquet. Dr. E. Eugene Pos ton opened the program wel coming the guests to Gard ner-Webb. Next, lone Kemp Knight, professor at Mere dith College, introduced the main speaker. At the end of his three year term in the Army, Larry decided to return to college, but this time to ma jor in Religion. He returned to Gardner-Webb last spring and he will be completing his graduation requirements in December of this year.
