What makes this student unique and different from other new students on campus? He comes from Paris, France and his name is Pierre Sidler. How did Pierre ever decide to come to Gardner-Webb? This summer;. Dr. Charles Andrews and a group of students took a tour of Europe, concentrating their travels mainly in France. Pierre met Dr. Andrews and his FRESHMEM DISPLAY UNIQUE TALENTS (Ereatiue domer Once upon a time, in the land of enchantment, lived a family of trids. The family of trids lived in a deep, secluded valley surrounded by high, protruding mountains. Everyday the family of trids, (of which there are three members, by the way,) traveled to the high movmtain tops to graze upon the freshly grown grass. The only passageway to the field went by the castle of a mean old ugly ogre. Everj^ime the family of trids traveled to the freshly grown grass, the mean, old, ugly ogre would kick them thar’ trids down into the valley. I mean this hap pened everyday. Finally, one day when the family of trids got tired of getting kicked down into the valley, they got an appointment with the village rabbi. They said, “Rabbi, everytime we trids travel to the freshly grown grass, we get kicked down the valley, every time. ”So the next day, the village rabbi and the family of trids went up to the mean, old ogre. When the trids went up the hill, they got kicked down the valley just like on the other days. When the rabbi went up the hiU, the ogre did nothing. This shocked the village rabbi. He said, “Ogre, why do you kick them thar trids down the hiil, but not me?” The ogre replied, “You silly rabbi, kicks are for trids!” One of the many events of orientation this yestr included the Freshman Talent Showcase. This event was presented to the stu dent body on Wednesday, August 28, at 8:00 p.m. in the Bost Physi cal Education Building. Mr. Robert Decker, Sr., a music pro fessor, served as master of cere monies for the program. Three winners were selected by judges from the variety of stu dent talent. Those serving as judges this .year were Mr. BiU Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pople, Dr. Robert Morgan, Mrs. Mar garet King, Jeannie Marlow, Danny Cook, and Charlotte Meyer. The three wirmers from the stu dent talent were Tom Query (magician), first place, Heyward Duncan (imitated a trumpet), second place, and Dave Mingoia (ventriloquist), third place. Pierre says he really likes Gard ner-Webb and Boiling Springs. He plans to stay in the United States and become a naturalized citizen. One interesting thing about Pierre is the fact he never did leam how to drive a car. In France, anyone wanting to learn how to drive must take very ex pensive, private driving lessons in order to receive his or her li cense. Pierre states that require ments for driving are less strict in the United States and plans to get his as soon as he can. He also plans to buy a car as soon as he has enough money. Pierre is very interested in join ing some type of rock music group as soon as he can purchase an electric guitar. His other in terests include soccer, electronics (he has built his own amplifier), photography, karate, and girls. Pierre used to have a great in terest in motorcycle riding, but after having two bad wrecks, and suffering through some broken bones, he decided he was through with motorcycles. Pierre feels that his English could be improved, and even though he doesn’t like watching much television, he has decided that the best way to improve his English is to watch television. He thinks that American television programming includes too much violence and advertising. Pierre is a business student here and wants to leam all he can bout computers. He hopes to get his Masters Degree in Business Administration upon completion of his studies at Gardner-Webb. We all extend a friendly wel come to Pierre Sidler from Paris, France. welcome Freshmen Transfers
