f^Y\\ >6 T] HE 0 PILOT Gardner-Webb College MONDAY, APRIL 5,1976 BOILING SPRINGS, NORTH CAROLINA Students to preach Religious Emphasis Week begins today This year’s Religious Em phasis Week has been incor porated with the Student- Led Revival. Two required -Webb. After graduation, Bobby will be married to Rhonda Josey, also a student here, in June of 1977. They will both attend Southern ^minary. As a high school student, Bobby always wanted to be a basketball coach. How ever, after being involved in the church most of his life cause “I felt Gardner-Webb was the place to be to serve the Lord.” Bobby’s plans for the im mediate future are to attend Southern Seminary in the fall. After that he hopes to begin a full-time pastorate. Originally, Bobby had planned to study electrical servicing at a technical in stitute. “I hadn’t really sur rendered to the Lord,” says Bobby. But he came to real ize that Gardner-Webb of fered the necessary courses BOBBY GANTT morning programs will be held along with four nightly services. The night pro grams will be held at 6 p.m. in Hamrick Auditorium. The student preacher for the Monday night service is Bobby Gantt. Bobby is a senior religion major, and will graduate in December, 1976. Bobby came to Gardner- Webb from Shelby. As he was growing up in the near by to\vn, he was impressed with the small school and the Christian atmosphere and decided to attend Gard- val service will be preached by Keith Dixon. This senior religion major is from Siler City, N.C. Keith transferred from Wingate Junior College at the end of his sophomore year because he wanted a “good, Christian educa tion.” He also was im pressed with the caliber of the school and its Religion Department. The main fac tor, however, in his decision was “the guidance of the Lord.” Keith plans to attend Southeastern Seminary in the fall after working as a youth director in a church this summer. After that, he hopes to “go into the full time pastoral ministry being in the will of the Lord.” Keith enjoys any kind of sports and being able to meet and talk with people. Rick Martin speaks on Thursday night. He is also a senior religion major, grad uating in May. Rick’s home town is Portsmouth, Va. This summer, Rick will tour.with “Son Company” a Christian singing group con sisting of students from Gardner-Webb. In the fall he plans to attend Southwes tern Seminary. Rick was a transfer from Madison College in Va. where he was studying to be a dentist. After one summer, he felt the Lord was calling him into Christian service and he found Gardner-Webb to be the place for him to go. “I really appreciate Gard ner-Webb. I have found a lot more meaning to life; a lot more purpose than I ever found before.” BOBBY CLINE and hearing the call to be a pastor, he realized that the ministry was his vocation. The speaker for Tuesday night is Bobby Cline. Bobby is also a senior, graduating this May, with a major in Biblical Languages and Lit erature. North Myrtle Beach is Bobby’s hometown. He came to Gardner-Webb be- KEITH DIXON for a Christian vocation. Bobby enjoys being in the outdoors, especially while fishing and participating in water sports. Wednesday night’s revi- SGA election results tabulated RICK MARTIN Recently, elections for SGA offices were held. The following students were elected to positions: Bill Baucom, president; Debbie Hall, vice-president; Mackie Sinclair, secretary; Sherry Setzer, treasurer; and John Linderman, student center board chairman. As the new SGA Presi dent, Bill Baucom made the following comments. “First of all, let me say thank you to all those who supported me in the election. Secondly, let me say that I really feel that the newly elected offi cers of the SGA for next year are going to be com mitted to working for you (the students). “I feel that next year has the potential to be the great est year ever for Gardner- Webb. I feel that student in volvement with both admin istrators and faculty is one of the keys to having a suc cessful year,” he stated. “Great strides have been made towards bettering the atmosphere at Gardner- Webb; but I feel that much more can be done. “One of my wishes next year is that students will work for students. Next year I want to work my hardest for the students and what they want as a student body and together I feel with their cooperation we can have a great year.” Rick Trexler, the outgoing SGA President said, “These newly elected Student Government officers are all of high caliber and are will ing to work hard next year. Only with the support of the whole student body can any thing be accomplished. “Student Government has come a long way in the past few years. Now, more than ever, is the voice of Student Mr. Tom McGraw stated Government heard. This is that “each officer has a con- the voice of all students tribution to make and I feel through these officers. ’ ’ that they will do it. ” Search Committee needs students Dr. Robert Lamb, faculty representative for the Trustees’ Search committee for a new college president, has expressed a desire that students indicate their ideas of what qualifica tions the new President should have. Mr. R. Patrick Spangler, chairman of the search com mittee, has requested that Dr. Lamb work with Rick Trexler to present opinions of the student to the committee. “We are concerned first of all,” says Mr. Spangler, “to know what students believe are the qualifications needed by the person who will be President. We would like to have those suggestions by Tuesday, April 6, if possible. Later, we will be happy to consider any specific names students may recommend.” “I feel my purpose,” says Dr. Lamb, “is to clearly trans mit to the committee whatever the students choose to tell me.” Any student who has a suggestion should forward it to Dr. Lamb or to Rick Trexler. GARY THREATT The speaker for the Tues day morning service is Gary Threatt. He is a senior reli gion major from Marshville, N.C. After graduating in May, Gary plans to attend South western Seminary. After seminary, his plans are to go into foreign missions. Before coming to Gardner- Webb, Gary attended two other colleges. He was first at Pembroke State College majoring in Physical Educa tion. Upon hearing the Lord’s call to the ministry, he transferred to Tennessee Temple. Afterwards, Gary decided that Gardner-Webb was the place to complete his education. Gary’s main hobby or in terest is running. He is a member of the track team here. (Continued On Page 2)
