Robert is a Bibli cal Languages and Litera ture major. He will speak at the Thursday morning ser vice. Robert is from Camden, S.C. and plans to go to semi nary upon graduation from Gardner-Webb. Although he is not sure as to which semi nary to attend, he does know that he will go into some form of Christian service. One reason Robert is at tending Gardner-Webb is that Gardner-Webb offers what he needs for his future. Another reason for coming here is that “Gardner-Webb is in the blood. He explains that “instead of being a religion major, I want to leam about people and understand them, a counseling type thing, and I would only dup licate courses at seminary otherwise.” John came to Gardner- Webb after two years in the Marine Corps. He was main ly seeking a “friendly, Chris tian atmosphere ‘where he could not only’ give Chris tian love, but receive it as well.” John loves to work with young people and help them to understand God’s love. by Rus Anderson With most of its regulars standing by, the company of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital sets its sights on, and characteristi cally prepares itself for. Included in the Operation are scenes depicting the ef fects of war, (with some character orating moral judgments of it), the com- maderie of a company with a common purpose, and the humor that imagination, stirred by necessity and GWC receives new program The School of Medical Technology at Charlotte Memorial Hospital has en tered into an agreement with Gardner-Webb College whereby Gardner-Webb stu dents may earn the bachelor of science degree in medical technology. The program requires stu dents to complete three years of study at Gardner- Webb and a full calendar year of instruction in medi cal technology at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. The de gree will be granted by Gardner-Webb. ' “We are pleased to enter into this affiliation with Gardner-Webb for the pur pose of increasing the effec tiveness of both institutions in education for the impor tant branch of medical tech nology,” said Dr. John T. Cuttino, director of the School of Medical Tech nology. Students enrolling in the program must complete the basic course requirements as prescribed by Gardner- Webb plus supportive stu dies and electives as out lined by the college. The ma jor course in medical tech nology will be taken at Char lotte Memorial Hospital. Gardner-Webb has a simi lar agreement with the Bow man Gray School of Medi cine of Wake Forest Univer sity. boredom, can bring. The company of M*A*S*H includes Len Keever as Colonel Blake, commanding officer of the 4077th; Chris Goethe as Trapper John; “Speedy” Holbrook as “Radar”; Michael P. Cox as Hawkeye; Syd Caudle as Duke; and in troducing Debbie Hall as Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan. Other troops are: Tom Swinney as General Ham mond; Dana Dillon as Cap tain Bridget McCarthy; Aleeta Walker as Lt. Janice Fury; David Cox as Captain Frank “Quack-Quack” Burns; Kevin Moen as Father Mulcahy; and John Yvars as the “painless, Polish dentist,” Captain Walt Waldowski. Supporters in the cast are: David Fairchild, Larry Owens, Joy Burrell, John Sutton, Russell Anderson, Karen Clodfelter, Debbie Pierson, Donna Lail, Geneal Wade, Melanie Rabb, Marion Gibson, Sharon Grindstaff, Diana Hartman, Wanda Turner, Jane Dick, Duane Dening, and Miriam Robinson. The Commander/Director of the company and the man largely responsible for all this madness is senior stu dent director, Tom Hutchens. Pre-registration begins Pre-registration for the fall semester has begun as of Monday, March 29. Schedules of courses can be picked up in Mrs. Polly Wylie’s office. In order to pre-register, Mrs. Wylie instructs that the stu dent should see his advisor to work out the individual schedr ule on the blue course card and to bring up to date the Aca demic Progress Report. After this procedure, one should submit the blue card and the white copy of the Academic Progress Report to Mrs. Edwards. Beginning on April 20 with student nurses and rising seniors, students can pick up their IBM printed schedule. Special Olympics held soon The Spirit of Truth will perform tomorrow morning li chapel and again after the evening revival service at 8:00 ii Host Gym. The group is comprised of six young adults ii full-time Christian music ministry. On April 29, the Special Olympics will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The event will take place in Spangler Stadium. The Special Olympics is an event designed specifi cally for mentally retarded children (trainable classifi cation) ranging in age from 6 to 23 years old. Mrs. Launita Proctor, co ordinator of the event, ex pects approximately one hundred children to partici pate. “Some are in wheel chairs and will have to be pushed,” says Mrs. Proctor, “but they will compete.” Events will include the Wheelchair race, 50 yard dash, 220 dash. Running Broad Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Basketball Throw, Football Throw, Frisbee Throw, Sack Race, and Soft ball Throw. Competition is in the fol lowing categories: Under 8, 8-9, 10-12, 13-15 and Over 16. Boys compete with each other, as do girls. Mrs. Proctor says, “This event is the climax to our Adapted Physical Educa tion’s (P.E. 402) weekly work with the children at the Children’s Center. The stu dents go over in small groups each week and carry on physical education with the mentally retarded. ’ ’ This is the only physical education they get because the school does not have a physical education teacher. This year we have initiated a swimming program for the mentally retarded. A group of children come over to our pool each Friday morning and swim for an hour.
