That’s the date you’ve got to submit your report, of where you are. I’ve long advocated that we’d be a lot better off if we had the right kind of per son, man or woman, living in the dorms. I’ve advocated that ever since I’ve been here and that’s 14 years. In fact, many of the dorms at one time had house mothers and they can perform a very valuable service. There’s just sometime you need somebody around who can just speak a word and keep down a lot of problems that might exist. “Now, I think they’ve used the word cur few; if you say curfew to me, it means you’ve got to be off the streets at night by 6 o’clock, or something like that, you know. Well, I think they should verbalize it more positively and say that if you have a “com- ing-in time” for women they should be alike for men, and that’s true. Now, how we handle that is open for discussion. You cans handle it different ways. “Some (colleges) have no rules whatso ever. Well, I think you know that as long as Gardner-Webb is in existence, we’re going to have certain rules and we’re not going to advocate, for example, co-educational dorms. I’m against that. I don’t think it has any purpose in our setting. Of course there are many that think our rules are not all that bad to begin with and if you state them negatively, yes they’re bad. “I don’t know how we’re going to handle this program, because I have not seen their recommendations, and I have not even met with the Title IX committee. You see, there’s nothing officially been done about it.” GARDNER-WEBB COLLEGE Boiling Springs, North Carolina Commencement Exercises Saturday, May 15,1976 2:00-4:00 p.m Reception for Seniors and Parents The home of Acting President and Mrs. Thomas J.
