Television Broad
casting and Film.
Television
Broadcasting is
being taught by
Tom Black, who has
worked in radio
and TV stations
for more than
fifteen years.
Presently Black
is the Editorial
Page Editor for
The Shelby Star.
Prior to this, he
worked for the
North Carolina
News Network in
Raleigh and was
the News Director
at WSOC-TV.
Black also taught
a radio-television
class at Gaston
College.
John Brock
teaches the film
class. Brock is a
film producer
associated with
Earl Owensby
Studios, Inc. in
Shelby. He has
produced several
films , among
them, Rutherford
County Line.
Hyperspace. and
Death Driver.
Brock is also
president of John
Brock Production,
Inc. Like Black,
Brock also has
taught previously.
Two years ago,
Brock taught in
the history
department at
Gardner-Webb.
Being a producer
is not as easy as
it sounds.
"Basically, a
producer has to
deal with the
packaging of a
movie, putting
together deals and
distributing the
movie worldwide,"
said Brock. With
Brock’s help and
supervision, the
film class is
planning to make a
short film, so the
students will
learn the process
of making a movie.
