BOILING SPRINGS, NORTH CAROLINA
Farewell,
Seniors
by R. Shawn Lewis
The Senior
Year. In a few-
short days,
seniors
everywhere will
be receiving what
they have worked
for their entire
lives, a college
degree. What
will you do with
this piece of
paper? hang it on
a wall or put it
to good use? The
futux'e is here
seniors; what are
you going to make
of it?
For some,
the future is
pleasant, maybe a
job with IBM lies
ahead. For
others, however,
the uncertainty
of a steady job
makes the future
appear gloomy.
Another major
undertaking which
looms in the
future, is
marriage and the
providing for a
family. These
are things that
education has not
taught you,
seniors- it’s up
to you to handle
them. But enough
depressing talk,
let’s talk about
the good ahead.
Total
independence.
Your day has
finally come to
be a "freebird".
You call the
shots and make
the rules.
Ultimately, after
21 years of
confinement, you
can decide what
is good for you.
You’re an ADULT
now.
When you
walk across that
stage a few days
from now, do us
all a favor
seniors- make
something of
yourself. You
control your des
tiny. These last
few days are for
you seniors; you
have earned them.
Congratulations to Dr.
Lonnie Proctor and to all
who participated in Special
Olympics. The event con
tinues to be an Olympic task
for its organizers, but one
whose special contributions
to this community outstrip
measurement.
When people care enough
to DO their very best —
without asking what they
will be paid or how they will
be recognized — service is
personified. The pleasures
of that day illustrate for us
all what THE MAN said
when he said “follow me.”
It’s
Oyer.
Let’s
Party!

Spring Jubilee ’87
A Night To Remember
By Dave Keim
Dave Keim
The various programs the Student
Center Board (SCB) sponsors are made
possible through the allocation of
$25 per semester for each full-time
student. These programs include
concerts, movies, coffeehouses,
comedians, dances, and other special
events such as Homecoming and Spring
Jubilee. The Board attempts to
arrange these functions so that there
is no other charge to the stauden
body. So far the Board has been
successful with this task.
The Social Committee (co-chaired
by Brent Winslow and Beth Whitley
this year) aids the SCB with special
events such as Homecoming and Spring
Jubilee. They take care of such
details as theme, colors,
decorations, and menu.
This year, the SCB and Social
Committee worked hard to make this
year’s Spring Jubilee the best ever.
The festivities began on Wednesday,
April 22 V7ith a bowling party at
Major League Lanes in Shelby.
On Thursday, the SCB presented
Steven Spielbei-g-’s Academy Award
winning "Back to the Future",
starring Michael J. Fox. Frideiy, a
concert was held in Paul Porter Arena
featuring the Spontanes and Walk the
West. The Spontanes ai-e a highly
reputable Charlotte band that
specialize in performing cover
versioxis of everyone’s favorite Top
40 hits. Walk the West is a young
band out of Nashville that has just
recently signed with Capitol Recoz'ds
and just released their first
national album. Although they hail
from the home of country music, they
are not a country and western band.
Their music is a conglomeration of
many styles and types of music.
On Saturday night the week’s
events culminated in
Jubilee Dance. It was
