That’s Entertainment British Invasion Comes to GWC 25 Years Later Webb Jam II Beatlemania Hits Campus By Noel T. Manning, I! Entertainment Editor The impact of the Beatles upon the world is a matter of public record, but the feelings of the Beatles instilled in anyone who witnessed their infrequent live perfor mances are as hard to convey as to forget. Unfortunately, very few people have shared that rare experience. But, on April 20th, at 8:00 PM, in the Dover Theatre, the magic of the Beatles, live on stage, will be stun ningly recreated by "The Cast of Beat lemania." "The Cast of Beatlemania" begin their show with many songs that first caused the world to stop and take notice of four mop- topped lads from Liverpool. The Beatles are not only a musical force but a sociologi cal entity as well. Their hair, clothes, and humor all contribute to their impact. Scenes of uncontrolled hysteria follow them wherever they go. 'The Cast of Beatlemania" recreates the sights and sounds of the Beatles so faith fully that you will recall when the world was engulfed in the most pleasant fever of all: Beatlemania. "The Cast of Beatlemania" continue in their show as the Beatles changed in their careers. Three different costume changes coincide with the Beatles changing music. They sweep the panorama of those changes before you in headlines, newsreel clips, photos and films presented on a series of scrims and screens orchestrated to the hits that marked the milestones of the world supergroup’s varied career. This is a phenomenal group of performers with more than spectacular audio and visual ef fects. The members of "The Cast of Beat lemania" were selected from thousands of musicians who auditioned from all parts of the U.S. for the Broadway show, Beat lemania. This show features former members who starred in the Broadway production of the show and have performed in all fifty states and sixteen foreign countries, includ ing Canada, Brazil, England, Japan, and now Boiling Springs. They now bring their stage show to you...LIVE!! courtesy of the Student Entertainment Association. So, be prepared...to catch the fever! Movie Reviews By Casper Jetson "Driving Miss Daisy" (PG) A + This movie is an exquisite master piece! Director Bruce Beresford’s adapta tion retains all the impact of its Pulitzer Prize-winning stage original. Academy Award nominated Jessica Tandy and Mor gan Freeman give more than exceptional performances. Tandy as the tight-lipped aging widow, Daisy Werthan, and Freeman as the extremely patient black chauffeur, Hoke, who enlightens her in the segregated South. Journeying with these characters, we travel to places one doesn’t expect to go as we watch them change over 25 years, befriending and respecting each other. Anyone that has ever met an elderly Southerner will know these charac ters...and love them. The theme of racial respect runs strong. Also we are confronted face to face with the fear of senility. This is a powerful picture that will effect each and everyone that views it in a different and unique way! This picture has been nominated for 9 Academy Awards...and justly so! Grading A = Phenomenal, A Must See B = Exceptional Picture C = Average, Mediocre D = Weak, Poor Effort F = Totally Unacceptable "Madhouse" (PG-13) F- Angry! Disappointed! Bored! Wish I’d stayed home! (All of these are how I felt after viewing "Madhouse") Kirstie Alley (Cheers" and John Lar- roquette (Night Court) portray a TV reporter and a stockbroker who have just moved into a new home in Los Angeles. After moving in, they become victims to John’s housewrecking cousin and wife who pay an unexpected visit...but they are not alone...they also bring with them a vomiting cat (Fun, huh?). The madness is just begin ning as Kirstie’s gold-digging sister comes to stay, claiming that her monthly allowance of $9,000 is hardly enough to live on...and, no, Kirstie’s sister is not alone either (We couldn’t be that lucky). She brings with her a drug-addicted son, a next door neighbor, and two bratty kids! To make the movie even more unfuimy, the ungrateful guests all hate each other and...they hate John and Kirstie. Things never go right for the hosts of this Madhouse or for those of us sitting in the theatre watching it! If you wish to see John Larroquette or Kirstie Alley...watch Night Court or Cheers! Take some advice, if you want to watch a housewrecking party...go to a family reunion! "Joe Versus The Volcano" (PG) B Joe...has a miserable job. Joe...has a home that only the dead could enjoy. Joe...has the love life of a garbage can. Basi cally, Joe’s entire existence is nothing more than a nuclear waste dump! Joe (Tom Hanks) only learns to live when his doctor (Robert Stack) diagnosis a terminal "Brain Cloud," and gives him just six months to live. Joe quickly decides he no longer needs his job and dispenses of it in a most unusual and visual way! Joe’s life is then thrown into a chaotic chain of events when a wacky millionaire industrialist (Lloyd Bridges) offers Joe the deal of a lifetime (or six months, whichever comes first); an unlimited shopping spree in New York, a first class flight to L.A., and an ocean adventure cruise on a schooner to the far off island of "Waponi Woo" (small island, big volcano)...So, what’s the catch? Well, to appease the gods on the island of "Waponi Woo"...Joe...must jump into the volcano! Joe takes the offer, and makes every moment, and encounters a series of altering changes and a series of Meg Ryans (Top Gun, When Harry Met Sally). Ryan plays three roles in this picture and does a fan- tabulous job in each role. The film is definitely a comedy, but there are serious situations that will make you think! Hanks and Ryan allow you to feel what they feel as they face each of their "walls!" Don’t miss this movie! It’s a fun one! It’s a unique one! And, that uniqueness is what makes the film!
