From The Fish Tank R. Shawn Lewis Managing Editor At the beginning of the 1988-89 school year, The Pilot dedicated an entire issue to the "season of change" that had taken place during the summer. A major item of change that year was the installation of Dr. Richard Franklin at the helm of student develop ment. Now, a year and half later, once again Gardner-Webb appears to headed for a season of change. With the departure of Dr. Franklin and Pat Davis, the folks in Student Develop ment are faced with a great dilemma: How do you rebuild a newly-rebuilt program? The answer is not an easy one. The arrival of new faces on campus in such high pos tions often only adds to the existing chaos. New faces mean new ideas and different philosophies. To the students, new faces can be good and/or bad. Fresh personnel can bring with them* innovation and liberation; on the other hand, a new dean can mean less freedom and a return to older, more con servative methods. The selection of a re placement for Dr. Franklin must be done carefully. Franklin has made definite progress in the improvement of student life herd at Gardner-Webb. For example, as a senior I can remember when visitation was once a month on a Sunday afternoon. That’s how it was my freshman year. In order to retain the faith of the students, the search committee must find someone that will not take away the few liberties that we the students now have. To hire someone who will not keep the ball rolling on ex tended visitation would be to take a giant step backwards into the dark ages of Gardner-Webb history. It would a shame to ■see such a thing happen. *** Just a note in passing to the students, staff, and faculty of the college, the back page of last week’s Pilot, labeled "Apwil Fuulz..." was printed in the spirit of April Fool’s Day. The stories were not true. Thanks. G % ^5^ APRIL 1990 16-21 THEPILOT R. Shawn Lewis Managing Editor Co-Editors DawnE. Camp Kathy Henson Sports Editor Marty White Dr. William B.
