What’s up with the *Dogs?
The outcome of the game four weeks
ago against UTC Chattanooga was an ex
pected one, but the outcome of the last three
games is totally startling.
First of all fellas. I’m not here to bad
ger you about the games this week. I'm just
concerned about the way you guys are playing
football.
I do want to say some things about the
Newberry game first. Coach Woody Fish was
quoted in the Shelby Star as saying , " We
weren't competitive enough with a very aver
age Newberry team."
If a team has a fullback that rushes for
194 yards is average, then we must be below
average.
Tremayne Washington, the Newberry
fullback was quoted as saying, "This was defi
nitely a pay back game. They tried to embar
rass us at our homecoming last year (65-16)."
Last years team did embarrass a lot of
teams, and this year they are out for revenge.
Wingate and Lenoir Rhyne has already had
theirs.
Let's reminisce about the Newberry
contest one more time. Two minutes to go,
GWU down by two. Craven walks up to take
the snap. Craven drops
back...INTERCEPnON. I mean, you're down
by two and you go for the bomb when the short
passes had been working all day? I DONT
THINK SO.,
Lets now reminisce about the Win
gate contest. The headline in the Shelby Star
pretty much summed the game up. It read
"NOT MUCH OF A DOG FIGHT: WIN
GATE WHIPS GWU.
Woody Fish says," We'rejust not play
ing good right now, I don't know the problem."
Well coach, let me help you with this. First the
Quarterback position.
Everyone is looking at the yards Cra
ven is getting but they are ignoring the INTER
CEPTIONS. Interceptions are a very impor
tant problem in clutch situations. Craven can't
seem to throw the ball to his own teammates in
clutch situations.
During this contest. Craven threw three
interceptions - see what I mean? When the
game gets heated up, John Craven is the exact
opposite of Masterlock; he's never tough un
der fire.
Mike Ragin burned the secondary with
7 catches for 201 yards. Enough about the real
Bulldogs, now to Lenior-Rhyne.
All I need to say about this contest is
two words, Leonard Davis. Davis, the LR
running back had 44 rushes for 342 yards
breaking a new SAC record.
The Bears were down 26-40 until the
Davis show started. Davis was like the ENER
GIZER BUNNY; he kept on running and run-
Cherishing G-W memories
I win soon be an alumnus of Gardner-
Webb University and with much more experi
ence now than I has as a freshman, I can see the
wisdom of choosing Gardner-Webb as my
alma mater. At times I too, as a student, have
criticized Gardner-Webb, and I am thankful
for the freedom to criticize. Painful as it may
be, criticism forces institutions and people
alike to channel their energy into the task at
hand. It forces us all to stay focused on growth
and betterment.
But for moment, I want step aside from
criticism and praise our school. I came to
receive a strong academic education, and I
have. I came to be immersed in a Christian
environment, and I have been. I came to be
more than number on a computer, to actually
be a person, known by name to more than those
few I am acquainted with, and I am. I came so
that I could get involved in various activities
and through them grow as a person, and I have.
I did not come specifically seeking to have
professors become my friends nor did I come
expressly to meet those people whom I will
cherish and enjoy keeping up with for the rest
of my life, but graciously I have received these
and many more things. As I come closer to the
end of my college years I realize that ten years
from now it will not matter if I liked the
cafeteria food, or enjoyed every Dimensions
program or if the SGA Constitution was just
right What will matter are the other things, the
things I came to Gardner-Webb looking for
and found.

Parking problems caused
by laziness
As a student employed by the University
Police Force, I realize that there is a problem
with parking. The problem is not with the
amount of spaces, but in the laziness of the
students and faculty. There are plenty of spaces
behind the LYCC, but no one wants to park
there. Why? Because "it's too far to walk."
Drivers are not realizing how much they should
be grateful for even those spaces. Look at our
choices compared to other schools. In most
universities, freshman and sophomores are
not permitted to keep cars on campus. An-
ning and running.
The "All Americans" on defense need
to step up right now. I mean if you have a child,
he's going to do what he see s the older people
are doing. The same with the freshmen; if the
veterans are not stepping up or setting a good
example, then the freshmen are not going to
either.
I want to end with a thought for the
players and coaches.
Players- Defense wins ballgames!
Coaches- Favoritism has been the down*
fall of many establishments.

other comparison is that in order to park and
walk to class (at larger universities), you must
park your car, sometimes close to a mile away.
All we need to do is observe the parking
regulations. Faculty in red lines, residents in
white lines, commuters in yellow lines, and
anyone can park behind the LYCC.
And remember, when you get a parking
ticket don't get mad and arrogant, just talk it
over with David Helton (chief of university
police). Someday you may get a closer park
ing space because University Police kept it
clear of those that shouldn't park there.

Advising concerned students
Once again the Catalyst comes forth to
segregate himself from the rest of the catatonic
student body, for these are the words of one
such as I!! I must now advise the group of
students that alleges that the new SGA Consti
tution has acerbic qualities.
First of all you people must learn to
express your thoughts in a more concise way.
You cannot and will not accomplish anything
by storming out of Senate meetings. Please, do
not exacerbate the problems by sinking to the
level of those who are puerile
Second, do not make asinine suggestions
to the Student Life Committee. Like suggest
ing that the Executive Officers be impeached
for the elections problem of last year. They
were not even in office then, so how could they
be blamed for last year's mishap. If you want to
point your finger towards guilt maybe you
should ask a certain dean about his involve
ment in the elections process. I still fail to see
how you guys could think that declaring SGA
null and void would not cause even more
problems for the student body.
Finally, I think that you should ask your
selves the question of whether or not you
object to the current SGA officers because you
feel theyare incapable of executing effective
elements of legislature, or do you object to
them simply because you do not like them?
Who am I to tell you what you should or should
not do? I am justice; I am iconoclastic; I am
ubiquitous; I am the minister of information; I
am the thorn in the left cheek of the adminis
tration; I am Gus; I am the CATALYST!!! I
wonder why it takes so long for sports player's
cases to be heard by the dean? Hmmm sounds
like favoritism to me.
Oh yeah, Woody it's called a new occupa
tion. Look into it!
