77/EP/LOr/September 12, 1994 3 AROUND CAMPUS Barking Bulldog This week, the Barking Bulldog traveled to the ever-famous cafeteria and asked the following questions: “What are your thoughts about this year's football team and the upcoming season? What would you like the new season to bring? What do you think will happen?” Here are some of the responses that were given: “I feel that our team has a good chance of going again to the nationals if they practice hard and especially nol get too sure of them selves before the game ends. Remember, it's never over til it's over! We're rootin' for ya!” Ruth Boger Junior “There is a lot of potential out on the field and they've been working extremely hard. We're looking forward to cheering for a winning team. We hope they go to the nation als so we can cheer them on!” Shelly Rochelle & Kirby Lindsay Freshman Cheerleaders “I am real excited about this year s sea son. I think our team has improved after last season. I think this year we will have a win ning season and hopefully go to the national championship.” Paul Leigh Senior “I expect our football team to kick butt. As a fan, I want to see our stands packed to Honors students are required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average and must complete twenty-four hours of honors classes as well as a Senior Thesis. “If we can make this program interesting, challenging, and, at the same time, fun, those students will receive a great satisfaction,” said Jones. The Honors Program here on campus is dedicated to involvement in the community. I thought you said, “Bum your paper!” * I didn’t know reading the textbook was so show support for our team. Gardner-Webb is going to come out on top in everything this year.” Tonya Poteat Senior “The biggest thing I want to see is excite ment from the team and the fans. I don't want to see any fair-weather fans at the games. Our football team is made up of a great bunch of guys who have worked really hard. They de serve our support, win or lose.” Tripp Atkinson Junior “For some reason this year it seems that the team is more focused and serious about the season. The team has a lot of talent. If they keep their minds right, they should be very successful.” Garry Eller Sophomore “I have heard that we are supposed to have a good season. I hope and wish our team good luck for a winning season. I think we can go all the way again this year.” Charlene Holcombe Junior The responses were great and they all had a common thread: it's time for GWU students to pack the stands and rally the Bulldogs to their biggest victory! Currently the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs are ranked 5th in the South Atlantic Conference and 19th in the Division II Poll. and food shelter in the community and have volunteered as mentors for middle school stu dents as well as lunch buddies for elementary school children. The Honors Program aims to compete and present research on a national level. Maybe next issue I'll make you laugh. Faculty Spotlight Faculty Spotlight introduces you to a faculty member at Gardner-Webb each issue. This week's Faculty Spotlight features: Z>. Stephen Baglione Professor, Broyhill School of Management Q: Where did you attend college? A: “I received my undergraduate degree at the City University of New York. I received my masters in economics and my Ph.D. in marketing at the University of South Carolina at Columbia.” Q: Who or what influenced your decision to become a teacher? A:“I enjoy working with young people.” Q:Where did you work before coming to Gardner-Webb? A: “This is my first job.” Q: What brought you to Gardner-Webb? A; “The fact that it's a small school with concern for students and a commitment to education.” Q: What do you want your students to take away from your class? A: “The ability to think and to articulate concepts.” Q: What future aspirations do you have? A: “That I will continue to enjoy teach ing.” Dr. Stephen Baglione is a native of New York City and has lived in Columbia, SC, for the past seven years. Dr. Baglione teaches Introduction to Marketing, Sales Management and Business Statistics. Dr. Baglione is not married, and he says that his students will “find out more about me as they take my classes.” Join the staff of Reflections Do you love to write poetry or short stories?
