New Administrative structure making progress
by Jason Farr
editor
In an effort to streamline the University's ad
ministration, some restructuring has taken place
in an effort to bring a sense of convenience and
order. This new structure will also allow Dr. White
to be more available off campus acting as a spokes
person for the University.
“As Dr. White would say, the University is
like a lanky teenager,” says Don Durham, Assis
tant to the President. “In the process of becoming
older and wiser, one must take time to accommo
date growth. This new structure will allow the
school to operate more effectively with the new
programs that have been added and will be added
in the future.”
This new structure is as follows: Frank
Bonner has been promoted from Vice President
for Academic/Student Affairs to Provost and Se
nior Vice President. This means that he will begin

to handle most of the day to day administrative
issues that occur on campus. Dr. Bonner will also
have an increased presence in the various founda
tions that provide funding to Gardner-Webb.
Those under Dr. Bonner are Gil Blackburn,
promoted from Associate Vice President and Dean
of Academic Affairs to \^ce President and Dean
of Academic Affairs; Jerome Scott, promoted from
Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Af
fairs to Vice President and Dean of Student Af
fairs.
Also, John Brock has been promoted from
Director of Marketing to Vice President of Mar
keting. Brock will be in charge of overseeing the
streamlining and integration of all the admissions
process. Working with him is Buddy Freeman,
promoted from Associate Director of Admissions
to Dean of Admissions and Financial Planning.
“The primary purpose of th? restructuring is
to make the admissions process much easier on
the student trying to get into one of the programs
here at Gardner-Webb,” says Durham. “We want
to make it as easy as possible for them and for us.
and we feel that this will help us in both aspects.”
According to Durham, this restructuring is a
direct result of the transition from college to uni
versity status.
“Many people felt that the transition was
complete in 1991,” says Durham. “Reality doesn't
h^pen overnight The process of becoming a uni
versity will be a continual effect and will happen
in periodic adjustments and shifts.”
G-W Theatre performs Fair Lady^^
by Julianne Kuykendall
staff writer
Gardner-Webb University Theater presented
its second play of the ’94-’95 season February 22-
27. This pCTformance was the classic "My Fair
Lady."
The cast consisted of actors and actresses
from the community as well as eight Gardner-
Webb students. Bridget Allen, a Shelby resident,
and Dr. Bill Hoovct, a Gardner-Webb professor,
claimed the spotlight as the leading characters,
"Eliza Doolittle" and "Henry Higgins." Gardner-
Webb student Travis Sparks performed impres
sively in the supporting role of "Freddy."
Jerry Colbert from Charlotte directed the pro
duction, which demanded much time and patience.
The entire cast and crew practiced intensively for
four weeks prior to showtime. Gardner-Webb stu
dents participated in all areas of the play ranging
from helping with music and set construction to
performing the actual parts.
Senior Gardner-Webb student and stage
manager Dave Hawes commented on the cast,"It
was a great casting crew to work with and I look
forward to being able to do it again soon."
All in all, the production of "My Fair
Lady" was an enormous success enjoyed by an
audience of all ages and personalities. The play
received a standing ovation each showtime, proof
that it was very well practiced and performed.
Gardner-Webb student Travis Sparks
(Freddy) says about the acting experience: “Work
ing for hours a night in rehearsals drew the cast
very close together. Although no one in principal
roles had ever worked together, the final product
was great. This is an experience that I will always
cherish and remember."
