SGA has a new president
who has great visions for
improving many different
aspects on our campus.
Student elections were
held on April 7-8. Two can

Steve Lambert, both
be highly beneficial to her as
she prepares to take on the role
of student government presi

roles as a result of involvement
in these activities,” stated

won the title by a wide
margin.
Keeffe is involved and
has participated in many
organizations. She is cur

the SGA. She is also a
member of the ASL choir
and is involved with the
faculty committee on cam
pus. Keeffe also participat

Wingate University. Those
organizations include SGA,
SADD (Students Against
Drunk Driving) and the Pep

Keeffe feels that participa

She noted that the main
problem on this campus is. too
much apathy among the stu
dents. “Students simply donft
want to get involved. They need
to be informed of the impor
tance and advantages of active
ly participating in SGA,” said
Keeffe.
When asked what inspired
her to run for this position,
Keeffe noted Larry Durham,
current SGA president, as set
ting a good example for her.
“I’ve had the privi
lege of working with
Larry Durham. He’s been
a great inspiration to me.
I’ve learned so much
from him,” said Keeffe.
Keeffe mentioned
that our campus is a won
derful campus, but can be
improved. “I love our
campus. I notice so many
great things about the
campus. But there are so
many things that can be
better,” Keeffe stated.
Keeffe has a plan for
increasing student
involvement.
“Advertising is the key factor. I
plan to bombard students with
information concerning SGA. I
also encourage students to
invite their friends to partici
pate. I want to cross all barriers.
We need the participation of all
students, regardless of race or
gender,” Keeffe said.
New store offers jobs

special to The Pilot
Have you been looking for
a job? Has it become a hassle
trying to find a place to work?
Well, look no further, because
an opportunity has just opened
up for you right here in the
area. One of the largest corpo
rations in America is coming to
Shelby: the Super Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart has become the
best place to go to get what you
want at a reasonable price.
Over the past few years, Wal-
Mart has started to expand its
services to give its customers a
bigger variety. It has become a
one-stop discount store, known
as the Super Wal-Mart, that has
just about anything anyone
could want.
The Super Wal-Mart opens
up many doors of opportunity
for the college students who are
looking for jobs. These jobs can
work within students’ sched
ules and give them a little
spending money.
With the Super Wal-Mart
there are so many jobs that one
can choose from and apply for.
“There will be lots of areas that
need employment,” according
to Assistant Store Manager
Johnny Wise. “There will be a
need for more sales associates
as well as grocery positions in
the deli/bakery and produce.
and people to work in the opti
cal lab.”
At the moment, the store is
scheduled to open in July, but
nothing is definite at this point.
The number of positions they
have open now at the local Wal-
Mart is around 250 people, but
they are planning to hire around
500 to 600 people.
The hiring process will
begin within the next few
weeks. The store is planning on
advertising the exact dates for
the application process to
begin. Anyone interested in
applying for a job should go to
the present Wal-Mart and pick
up an application.
