Lenoir-Rhyne was the first to face the dogs at the plate on March 20 and 21. The Dogs were ready for revenge after losing the opener, 5-3. Lenoir-Rhyne looked like they would take the second game after building a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth innning. But the Diamond Dogs would not roll over and responded with a five-run rally in the sixth inning to take the lead 10-7. Brandon McKoy began the inning with a single and advanced to second when Chad Benton was hit by a pitch. Ashley Sweat scored McKoy with an BRBI-single to make the score 7-6. When Wes Gentry walked with the bases loaded, Benton advanced knot ting the score. After two passed balls and an RBI double from Sammy Pruett, the Dogs made their point loud and clear. Ladies win two from Indians Takiya Patrick Pilot sports editor Behind every good game, there’s a good pitcher. This could have been the Lady Bulldogs’ motto when they faced Catawba on March 23. Caley Parker’s strong right arm was too much for Catawba to handle. Parker tossed two complete-game shutouts, which led the Lady Bulldogs’ sweep of the Indians. In game one, the Lady Dogs scored two runs in the first inning and added four more in the third. Sophomore first baseman, Beverly Proffitt led the Lady Bulldogs (12-11, 2-0 SAC). Jennifer Archer con tributed two hits and one RBI while Tracey Mitchell was 2- for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense. GWU took the game by a score of 8-0. Game two was a battle for the Lady Bulldogs. Gardner- Webb took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Angie Blair singled and advanced to third base after Mitchell reached first on an error. Joni Carter had an RBI- single to score Blair for the GWU advantage. The Dogs would not score again until the sixth inning when Melissa Barrett led off with a double. Carter then scored off an error increasing the Dogs’ lead to 2- 0. Blair followed with a sin gle bringing Archer in for the score. This is where it would stay as the Dogs won 3-0.
