It is pro duced by students under the supervi sion of the Department of Communication Studies. Gardner-Webb fosters an atmosphere in which student journalists may report on matters of common interest and write criti cally about University issues, policies and programs without fear of reprisal. At the same time The Piiot adheres to high standards of integrity and journalistic responsibility. Letters to the editor must be signed, but lames can be withheld if requested by the author. The Pilot is produced using the Quark Publishing System provided through a generous grant from Quark, Inc. Words cannot describe the great loss, and the horror, we all felt the morning of September II. In looking at this tragedy, I believe we must all look at the good we can extract from these events. 1 believe we can all agree it has brought us closer to each other, it has brought our nation closer to God, and it has made our country stronger. As Gardner-Webb stu dents my charge is to you is this: We never forget the hor ror, never neglect to pray for the victims’ families as well as our leadership in Washington, but we must move on learning from this event and making ourselves stronger. Let us go down in the his tory books as a people who stood up to evil and overcame it And let us remind future generations about this day so that the memory does not fade, but it remains as a reminder of ail we lost that day. On another note, although quite insignificant compared to these last two weeks, I would like to tell you a little about what your SGA has been doing. We have been working hard during these trying times to help students cope with what happened. SGA worked to respect all those who lost their life by having the flag lowered to half staff, and SGA has worked with Campus Ministries and the Student Campus Life Committee to give students a forum to discuss the issues. In addition to these activ ities, SGA has worked with the administration to provide students with a student phone in the stairwell of the DCC, as well as an ATM beside the snack bar. We have also addressed the issue of the Internet, making sure it is a high priority of the adminis tration, and we have been working hard to provide funds for many clubs and organizations which many of you are active in. Another thing SGA is working on is a business pamphlet providing you with things like where local busi ness are, as well as business numbers. You can also look forward to see nig a change machine in the DCC so that there is a place on campus to get change to do your laun dry. I hope you see that SGA is working hard to make your voice heard on campus, and that we arc working hard to improve student life on cam pus. We are more than just a group who discusses issues, we are a*'* group who works hard for you. However, we can not make effective change without your input. Please tell us what you would like to see changed on campus, and let us work on it. Our number is 4SGA, and we are located in Suttle Hall 108. May God Bless you, and our country, during the days ahead. Sincerely, Andy Polk SGA President Pornography on campus Continued from page 4 out students are looking at pom. It’s confus ing to me. I wonder, ‘Why? Why do they do it?”’ questioned a senior female. Where and how to get help The disheartenment that pornography can bring on those addicted to it and those around them has many wondering where they can turn for help. A Gardner-Webb male who had strug gled with pornography addiction has sug gested accountability as an excellent source of support. “The book of I John talks about honestly confessing your sins before men. Besides the power of Jesus Christ, finding a group of guys to hold you accountable is the strongest weapon to fight the temptation of pornography,” said a junior male. Other sources of help can be found through Christian web sites dealing with pom addiction and Christian counseling. Though Gardner-Webb’s counseling center provides free counseling to all stu dents, counselors state that they have not dealt with many cases. Essentially, however, students claim an individual must make his or her own deci sion to change. As a GWU male student pointed out, “There is only so much that others can do to fix the problem-ultimately, there must be a change of heart.” Where to get help: GWU Counseling Center Confidential, by appointment 4563 Guy’s accountability group 4 146 Girl’s accountability group 3695 Viafamily.com: offers links to over 30 different pornagraphy help sites. Addicts can receive counsel, encouragement and accountability. *^m^GlobalUSAonUne Current Services Networking • Web Hosting • Web Development • Dial-up Service • Network Wiring • Co-Location Domain Hosting • Dedicated Service We are the only “LOCAL” Internet Service provider in Kings Mountain, NO and surrounding areas.
