Cartee’s 10th the best concert yet
Folks had to be turned away from the Carl
Cartee Christmas concert Saturday in the Dover
Theater.
“It’s a very good problem to have,” said Noel
Manning, director of University and Media Re
lations.
Manning said he is amazed that the event,
which benefits local people served by the Salva
tion Army, hasn’t lost steam in the decade that
it has been taking place. In fact, it’s picking up
steam.
“The outpouring of support amazes me every
year. People are coming to have fun, but they are
also coming to give to something grander.”
About 100 people had to be turned away,
which meant that all 555 seats in the theater were
filled. Some people were able to wateh from the
lobby, through the open doors, Manning said.
There’s no word yet from the Salvation Army
office about the amount of food and gifts collect
ed before the show. Manning said that typically
there are more than 1,000 pounds of food and
more than 100 toys donated.
Plans are already in the works for next year’s
show, which will be Dec. 6.
