Second baseman Jody Pollock, third baseman Ryan Peterson, outfielder Scott Burks and pitcher Rhett Roberts were all released from the team on Tuesday. Pollock, a senior, was the team’s lead ing returning hitter. He finished last year with a .387 batting average, 11 home runs and 83 RBIs. Both Peterson, also a senior who hit .284 with one homer and 29 RBI, and Pol lock started all 58 games for the Eagles last year. Burks, a junior reserve outfielder, saw little action in 1999, appearing in 14 games and appearing four times at the plate, with no hits and one run scored. Roberts, a sophomore, also had a sparing role in 1999, with only four appearances and a 12.27 ERA. A news release from the school said several players were involved in a similar incident during the 1998 season and were issued a departmental reprimand at the time which outlined the potential sever ity of future penalties.
