the Seahawk/September 21, 2DDD 13 “Real Inspector Hound” opens UNCW alumna displays Amanda Combs Staff Writer The act and theatre department’s first play of the year offers murder, mystery and suspense mixed with flirtatious infidelity in Tom Stoppard's “The Real Inspector Hound,” a comedy with an unex pected twist. It opens tonight in Kenan Hall’s Standing Room Only (SRO) Theatre and will run through Sunday, and then reopen Sept. 27 and run until Sept. 30 Senior Richard White directs the play. It is the second White has di rected. The first was “Average Fri day Night,” which appeared last spring. White found “The Real In spector Hound” a challenge to di rect. “The theatre department suffered budget cuts and we only had three weeks of rehearsal,” White said. “Plus, I’m working with a mostly young cast.” The play’s cast consists of Joey Galloway as Inspector Hound; Aerin Koch as Lady Muldune; Collin Beck as Major; Justin Geer as Simon Gascoyne, Shawn Paul as Birdboot; Andrea Miralia as Ms. Drudge; Max Darby as Moon and Marissa Clapp as Felicity. Koch, who plays Lady Muldune, described the play as “Monty Python meets ‘All My Children.’” Lady Muldune is waiting the return of her husband who is supposedly missing. Her efforts to remain faithful are less than perfect and her character adds a flirtatious feel to the play. Koch said she enjoyed her role. “The spontaneous spirit inside of me is released on stage through Lady Carolina Coin Lannciry *>S2, on first solo exhibit James Flint The Seahawk Aerin Koch plays Lady Muldune in ‘The Real Inspecter Hound,’’which opens in the SRO Theatre tonight. Muldune,” she said. Paul plays Birdboot, whose role is somewhat mysterious until the end of the play. “One of my biggest challenges was forming the appropriate accent for my character,” Paul said. “He is boisterous, cocky and flirty.” One character to watch is Ms. Drudge, Lady Muldune’s maid, the servant who reveals too much. Her performance adds sarcastic comedy. “The Real Inspector Hound” is a comedy with an unexpected ending. Playwright Stoppard has also writ ten “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” and co-wrote Oscar-win- ning “Shakespeare in Love.” All performances begin at 8p.m., with the exception of Sunday matinees, which begin at 2p.m. Tickets are available at Kenan Auditorium and are free for students. Faculty, staff and public must pay $5. MEC3AN O’Brien A&E Editor University graduate Hannah Craven put together her first solo exhibit “Visual Scherzo,” at the Art Council of the Lower Cape Fear building this month. She has 21 collages that have been on display since Aug. 17 and wiU remain until Sept. 25. Volunteer Curator Jane Baldridge did give Craven advice and assistance when it came to putting the show together. “My job is to go out into the community and find artists and groups who are willing to show and have enough work to show and help them put it together,” Baldridge said. “I help them determine how many pieces are needed, what kind of publicity to do, how to make up a press kit and how to send it out. It’s kind of flin to see somebody put together their first art show.” The arts council gave Craven what wall space they had available, but no monetary assistance. She had to put together and send out her own press kits and announcements, and to have a reception. Craven would have had to oiganized and paid for it on her own. ^|Because_[tfiearts_council^^ uounesy o' Hanran cvav'en “Under the Porch” is one of Hannah Craven’s collages in her exhibit at the arts council building. under-funded, they couldn’t have a proper reception for her, but I still think it has been a very popular exhibit,” Baldridge said. So far. Craven has sold one of her pieces. Most of her work is priced between $100 and $400. The pieces on display grew out of the first collage class Craven ever had. “I took a class at UNCW under Margie See Art, Page 1~ DO YOU HAVE THE FIRST SIGNS OF A COLD?
