Greetings, and welcome back to Seahawk-iand for another fun-t'ilied semester. The name of the semester, judging by recent temperatures, is a bit of a misnomer though. Sure, spring semes ter ends during springtime, we at the Seahawk are certainly not fooled right now. It’s been just a tad chilly lately, that kind of chill that makes us dread going outdoors on most days, and, perhaps even more frustratingly, there's been no snow to go along with it. C’mon, weather, either snow or warm up already! At least one decision has been made on something lately: the elections are history. And whether we agree or dis agree with who was chosen to be the nation’s new president, at least we were able to avoid this becoming a serious Constitutional crisis. But the writing’s on the wall - this nation needs to take a good, hard look at the way it elects its leaders. Speaking of leaders, UNCW’s Ma rine Science community lost one of its great figures over the vacation with the passing of Dr. Gregory Lindquist. By all accounts, he was a driving force in bringing the Marine Science pro gram to the prestige it enjoys today. In other prestigious events. Coach Jerry Wainwright earned his 100"’ vic tory on Jan. 2 over Radford. Congratu lations to the coach and the team, and regrets to the team that really lost out - the San Antonio Spurs, the coach ing staff of which Wainwright de clined an opportunity to join last sum mer in favor of leading the CAA champs again. And as for the Seahawk, we’re here to cover it all for you. We’ll be add ing more features and photos as this semester progresses, as well as a com pletely redesigned, top-of-the-line website to be launched in the next few weeks (and yes, this will be permanent and updated almost daily). We hope you’ll be impressed, and certainly in vite all readers to submit story ideas, letters, comments and, yes, criticism. Welcome back, stay warm, and stay with us for the information that mat ters to you. PSST! YOU WANT SOME SPACE? Here’s your chance! Send us your letters and sound off on the Issues that matter to YOU. We want to hear it! Send your letters to the Seahawk at University Union 205E, or e-mall them to shkedltor@hotmail.com END ^OBAL CQOLitJif-
